WILL TURKINGTON STAY ON TOP?

28th August 2022

With just nine races remaining, the British Touring Car Championship makes its second visit of the season to Thruxton this weekend.

Team BMW’s Colin Turkington tops the standings, but a quintet of contenders lead the charge as the UK’s premier motorsport series returns to the fastest circuit in the country.

“There are still 9 races to go and that’s a lot of opportunity for the taking,” said Turkington.

“Thruxton is high speed with long fast turns. If you have the car hooked up, drivers can make a difference – that’s what we’re aiming for."

A dominant performance from Turkington last time out at Snetterton saw him strengthen his lead courtesy of victories in the first two contests, before the Northern Irishman ended the weekend with sixth place in the finale.

“It’s crucial we keep the momentum going and push on with the progress we made at Snetterton,” continued the BMW star.

“The motivation internally is fantastic right now and we’ll be using this to maintain our high standards and hold onto the edge we have as a team.

“I’ve loved this flow of events every two weeks and I’m pulling out all the stops to close off the summer spell with more positive steps forward."

Nearest rival Tom Ingram sits 15 points in arrears after a hat-trick of third-place finishes for the Hyundai driver, while BMW’s Jake Hill heads into the weekend third after an impressive five podiums in the past six rounds.

Rounding out the top five is Ash Sutton, fresh from his second win of the season, and Josh Cook, who holds the record as the most successful driver at Thruxton in the series’ history.
