TURKINGTON CLINCHES SECOND CONSECUTIVE GOODYEAR WINGFOOT AWARD

26th October 2021

Colin Turkington secured the top position for a second consecutive year in the Goodyear Wingfoot Award at Brands Hatch last weekend (23/24 October), once again proving the Team BMW driver’s consistency and performance in qualifying throughout the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season.

Eighth place in the final qualifying session of the year was enough to secure the four-time BTCC champion his second trophy in as many years, 14 points ahead of rival Josh Cook.

Maintaining a solid performance throughout the year, Turkington qualified within the top ten in nine qualifying sessions, collecting crucial points throughout the campaign to strengthen his bid on the trophy. Despite taking only one pole position during the year, the victory is proof that consistency and reliability across race weekends is key to success.

Into its second year, the Goodyear Wingfoot Award allocates points based on qualifying position in line with race points, with 20 points for the polesitter, 17 for second, 15 for third, down to 1 point for 15th qualifying position.

Andy Marfleet, Marketing Director - Goodyear UK commented: “It was a close competition in the Goodyear Wingfoot Award standings this year, with only 11 points between the top two drivers going into the final qualifying session. Colin has proven that consistency is key when it comes to qualifying, putting himself in prime position for the Wingfoot Award this year.”

The BTCC Media Team caught up with Turkington at Brands Hatch on Saturday to discuss his latest accolade. Listen to the interview below...
