The 2026 TOCA Night of Champions at Silverstone in November will celebrate the standout moments from this year's Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship, with the Fans' Choice Award once again giving you the opportunity to decide which achievement deserves recognition.
This year, five unforgettable moments are in contention, from emotional triumphs and long-awaited victories to breakthrough podiums and landmark wins. Today, we're looking back at Árón Taylor-Smith's remarkable wet-weather drive from 13th to victory at Brands Hatch, ending a ten-year wait for BTCC success.
Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport's Árón Taylor-Smith produced one of the standout performances of the 2026 campaign, charging through the field in treacherous conditions around the 1.2-mile Brands Hatch Indy circuit to claim his first BTCC victory since Rockingham in 2016.
The Irishman lined up 13th on the grid for the second encounter of the weekend, with damp conditions greeting the field before the rain began to fall heavier as the race progressed.
The vast majority of drivers elected to remain on slick Goodyear tyres, setting the stage for a fascinating battle as grip levels continued to deteriorate around the Kent circuit.
NAPA Racing UK's Ash Sutton and Team VERTU's Ricky Collard both enjoyed spells at the front of the field, but it was the charging Taylor-Smith who was rapidly making his way through the order.
The #50 Toyota Corolla GR Sport looked particularly comfortable in the challenging conditions, with Taylor-Smith picking off his rivals as others struggled to maintain their pace on the increasingly slippery surface.
Having started outside the top ten, the experienced Irishman soon found himself challenging for the lead, eventually diving down the inside of Collard's Hyundai i30 N at Paddock Hill Bend to complete his charge from P13 to P1.
Once out front, Taylor-Smith continued to stretch his advantage over the chasing pack, eventually crossing the line 3.409 seconds clear of Sutton, with Collard completing the podium positions.
The victory marked a significant milestone for both driver and team, with Taylor-Smith returning to the top step of the BTCC podium for the first time in almost a decade, whilst Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport celebrated its first victory since beginning its new chapter as a two-car operation.
Having last tasted outright success at Rockingham in 2016, the Dubliner's Brands Hatch triumph brought an end to a lengthy wait for his fifth career BTCC victory.
Reflecting on the achievement, Taylor-Smith said: "Today feels so surreal, it's like a dream. We've been working so hard as a team to unlock a bit more performance from this Corolla, and to have the best reward today with a victory is honestly the greatest feeling for everyone involved."
The #50 driver also credited a small adjustment to his Toyota between races with transforming its performance, allowing him to make the most of the difficult conditions.
A remarkable drive through the field, a first victory in ten years and a memorable moment for Taylor-Smith and Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, earning the Irishman a nomination for the 2026 Fans' Choice Award.
