Speedworks Corolla Racing returns to familiar territory this weekend as the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship heads back to Donington Park this weekend (22/23 August) – this time taking on the Grand Prix circuit.
The Cheshire-based squad began this year's campaign at the Leicestershire venue back in April, when the championship raced on Donington’s National configuration.
On that occasion, Josh Cook immediately demonstrated the potential of the Toyota Corolla GR Sport, qualifying inside the top six before fighting right at the front in the Race to Pole.
Cook carried that momentum into Sunday and again looked capable of challenging for victory in the opening race before a puncture cruelly brought his charge to a premature end.
Four months later, Speedworks returns determined to rediscover that level of performance as the championship tackles the longer and more technically demanding Grand Prix layout.
The weekend provides an immediate opportunity to respond following a challenging visit to Knockhill last time out.
Despite Cook producing a determined recovery through the field on Sunday, the Scottish weekend ultimately fell short of the team’s expectations.
Speedworks therefore heads south with a clear objective – to attack the Donington weekend from the outset and translate the underlying potential of the Corolla into stronger qualifying and race results.
Alongside Cook, Ryan Bensley continues to build experience in his first BTCC campaign with Speedworks.
Having joined the team at Thruxton, Bensley now has two complete race weekends in the Corolla under his belt and heads to Donington increasingly comfortable with both the car and the demands of the championship.
Knockhill provided another important step forward for Bensley. Despite the final results not fully reflecting his performance, his pace relative to the field was encouraging throughout the weekend, particularly around a circuit where the entire grid was separated by exceptionally small margins.
With valuable mileage and experience now behind him, Bensley arrives at Donington highly motivated to turn that progress into another step forward.
For Speedworks Corolla Racing, the return to the venue where its season began therefore represents an opportunity to reset, respond and attack the latest chapter of an intensely competitive BTCC campaign.
Christian Dick, Team Principal, Speedworks Corolla Racing, said: “Donington was a really positive place for us at the start of the season. Josh was right at the sharp end from the outset, and we showed that weekend that we had the pace to fight at the front.
“Knockhill was frustrating and ultimately wasn’t the weekend we wanted, so the best response is to get straight back out there and attack Donington.
“The Grand Prix circuit obviously presents a different challenge to the National layout, but we know the foundations of the package are strong and we’re going there determined to put ourselves back amongst the front-runners.
“Ryan is also making really good progress. Knockhill was encouraging in terms of his outright pace and, with two weekends now under his belt, he’s becoming increasingly comfortable within the team and the car. I’m looking forward to seeing what both drivers can do.”
Josh Cook, Speedworks Corolla Racing Driver, said: “I’m looking forward to getting back to Donington. The opening weekend of the season feels a long time ago now, but we had some really strong pace there and were genuinely in the fight at the front.
“We qualified well, had a really strong Race to Pole and then felt we were in contention for a big result on Sunday before the puncture, so there are definitely good memories and plenty of positives to take back with us.
“Knockhill was a tough weekend, but we kept fighting and recovered some decent results from where we started. Now we need to reset and attack Donington.”
Ryan Bensley, Speedworks Corolla Racing Driver, said: “I’ve got a couple of weekends under my belt now and I’m feeling more comfortable in the car every time I get in it.
“Knockhill was really encouraging from a pace point of view. The results perhaps didn’t show the whole picture, but I felt like we made another good step and I was much closer to where I want to be.
“That gives me a lot of confidence going into Donington. I’m understanding the Corolla better, I’m getting to know the team and how everything works over a BTCC weekend, and now I want to start turning that progress into results.
“I’ve definitely got the bit between my teeth. I’m really motivated, I can’t wait to get back in the car and I’m going to Donington determined to get stuck in and keep moving forward.”
