Continuing with our series of infographics looking back at what was a storming 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, we've crunched the numbers to see who was the best performer in qualifying of a Saturday afternoon. Read on and take a look at our infographic below…

Heading the way in terms of best average qualifying position for the season is Speedworks' Motorsport's Tom Ingram. While he didn't notch a pole position, seven of his ten qualifying sessions yielded a top-six berth, with just two sessions resulting in the Toyota man starting from outside of the top ten.

Next up was the Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda Civic Type R of Matt Neal. His pole-double over the Thruxton and Oulton Park weekends was complemented by nine top-ten starting positions, with 21st at Knockhill the only real blemish on an astonishing record and arguably the only reason he was pipped by Ingram.

Of the two title protaganists heading into the finale weekend, it was Team BMW's Colin Turkington that held the advantage in terms of average grid position. The Ulsterman was 2017's third-best qualifier followed by the impressive Jack Goff for Eurotech Racing in the Honda Civic Type R with champion Ash Sutton fifth.

Outgoing champ Gordon Shedden had the largest portion of the season to contend with the maximum allocation of success ballast, having topped the points tally heading into four race weekends. His appearance in the top six qualifiers made it three out of six for the Honda Civic Type R.
