Aiden Moffat continued his encouraging start to the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship by setting the fastest time in Free Practice at Oulton Park.
A stellar season opener at Donington Park left Moffat in the giddy heights of third in the overall Drivers' standings and he followed that up with another decent showing at Brands Hatch.
There was a bump in the road at Snetterton last time out but with a full quote of boost returning for the LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing car it seems like the Audis are back on song at Oulton Park.
The Scotsman's late flyer propelled the #16 machine ahead of Team VERTU's Tom Chilton and Restart Racing's Chris Smiley on the timesheets, with Moffat's teammate Mikey Doble next in the order – underlining the prowess of the new-for-2026 Audi A3 Saloon.
Times improved throughout the session with the track drying following an earlier sparkling of rain, as the final laps produced fully committed efforts on Goodyear dry tyres.
NAPA Racing UK's Ash Sutton was fifth ahead of James Dorlin in sixth, making this one of Restart Racing's best sessions of the season so far as the Independent outfit looks to kickstart its 2026 campaign in the Hyundai i30N.
Long time pacesetter Dan Cammish eventually had to settle for seventh in the #27 Ford Focus Titanium, whilst Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing's Dexter Patterson made it three Audis inside the top eight.
Reigning champion Tom Ingram was ninth in the #80 Team VERTU machine whilst WSR's Daryl De Leon rounded out the top ten.
20 cars took to the track with Speedworks Corolla Racing's Max Buxton currently sitting out today's proceedings through illness.
After Free Practice, the finishing order is split into two groups, odd-finishing-numbers (Group 1) and even-finishing-numbers (Group 2), for a 15-minute qualifying session to set their fastest times.
One group in particular will be stacked with talent later today with the likes of Moffat being joined by Sutton, Cammish, Ingram, Ricky Collard (Team VERTU), Josh Cook (Speedworks Corolla Racing), Gordon Shedden (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport) and Dan Rowbottom (Cataclean Plato Racing).
The group with the fastest qualifying time will occupy the odd-numbered grid positions for the Qualifying Race, ordered by their respective qualifying times. The other group will occupy the even-numbered grid positions, also ordered by qualifying times.
15 minutes after the qualifying session for Group 2 has concluded, the standard grid procedure for a race start begins, and the pit lane opens. The finishing order of the shorter 10-lap ‘Race to Pole’ will determine the grid for the first of Sunday’s traditional trio of races.
Half-points are awarded for the Qualifying Race. There are no bonus points for leading a lap, the fastest lap, or for pole position for the Qualifying Race, whereas the bonus points for leading a lap and the fastest lap are still available on Sunday.
Qualifying and the Qualifying Race can be found LIVE on the ITV Sport YouTube Channel worldwide from 13:50 later today.
