Following a strong weekend at Knockhill, Laser Tools Racing has its sights set on silverware in Hampshire, as Ash Sutton, Aiden Moffat and Carl Boardley head to Thruxton – the 2.4-mile circuit which set the scene for Sutton’s only pole position of the 2021 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship so far.

With fans returning to Moffat’s home track last time out, the trio had high hopes for qualifying in Fife, just under a fortnight ago. With all three drivers building up good pace throughout the session, Boardley’s hopes were dashed by an unfortunate spin that saw him settle for 25th, while Sutton clinched sixth and Moffat seventh.

Race one saw reigning champion Sutton make up spots to take fourth at the flag, while Moffat’s advances were fended off by the Ford of Jake Hill, resulting in the Scot taking seventh.

Boardley spent the 27-lap encounter working his way through the pack to make up seven spots, crossing the line in 18th.

The second race of the day saw the trio makes strong starts before a safety car period ensued.

On the restart, Sutton was quickly up into second and putting pressure on race leader Colin Turkington, while team-mate Boardley was looking confident in his Infiniti Q50, having made it comfortably into the points-paying positions by the end of the opening tour.

Moffat, meanwhile, was in a battle for position with Tom Ingram and fellow local drivers Gordon Shedden and Rory Butcher.

Sutton took the chance to fire his #1 machine into the lead on the final lap – a move that would result in his third race win of the 2021 campaign.

A tenth-place finish for Boardley marked the 45-year-old's best BTCC result to date, while Moffat crossed the line just after the #41 Infiniti, in 11th.

The final race of the day saw the three Infinitis line up on the grid in ninth, tenth and 11th spots, with their eyes firmly forwards.

After losing a place to his team-mate, Boardley was battling for a top ten finish throughout the encounter but would settle for 11th at the chequered flag.

Sutton, who made up places from the off, would take a top five position and, consequently, a valuable points-haul to maintain his position at the summit of the standings, while Moffat’s efforts were rewarded with a second seventh-place finish of the day.

With Thruxton on the horizon, Laser Tools Racing continues to top the tables in both the overall and Independent Teams’ battle, while Boardley holds second spot in the Jack Sears Trophy.
