In the Spotlight: Team BMW

25th November 2024

Team BMW were at the sharp end once again in 2024 with four-time champion Colin Turkington and Adam Morgan behind the wheel of the BMW 330e M Sports.

Combining to bring home 12 podiums across the 30-race season, the duo would bring the team home in third place in the Teams' championship whilst being a part of BMW's record-breaking tenth Manufacturers' championship.

Turkington, who once claimed a Drivers’ title in a consistent approach with only one victory to his name, attacked the 2024 campaign in blistering fashion. Five race victories on his way to fourth in the overall standings represented one of his fastest ever seasons, which was further underlined by the WSR-run #20 winning the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, an accolade for being the best qualifier across a full championship season.

Morgan would share the front row alongside his team-mate at the scene of Turkington’s first pole position of 2024 in a dominating display at Brands Hatch Indy. The latter would take home maximum points in the opening bout on race day, but a collision between Ronan Pearson and Morgan on the run up to Druids would scupper the team’s chances of a one-two finish.

That performance left the team ten points off top spot in the Teams' championship, two points off the summit in the Drivers' championship and two points clear in the Manufacturers' order, before fortune deserted the squad up until the summer break.

Croft, Knockhill and Donington Park GP during the second half of the campaign was another story, however, as Turkington hit top form. The #20 would be the BTCC's top scorer across the nine races, boasting a points tally 18 stronger than any other driver over the three-event period, winning the opening race of the day at all venues. Morgan would also pick up his one podium of the season in this period, Team BMW's strongest stretch of 2024.

Turkington would go on to finish fourth in the championship – tied on points with Dan Cammish despite the #27 only taking one victory to the #20's five, further highlighting BMW’s pace and performance in yet another highly-competitive and successful BTCC season for the German marque.
