This season, all media present at the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championshipwill be invited to attend a Dunlop Media Briefing in the Media Centre an hour after the conclusion of BTCC qualifying, where tyre choices will be made public.
Mickey Butler, Manager, UK and One Brand Motorsport Events will conduct the briefing and will announce in which race the teams have nominated to use the option compound tyre on Sunday.
The media briefing aims to offer insight into how the option tyre is expected to perform taking into considerations things such as a driver’s qualifying position, expected weather conditions and temperatures, track characteristics and success ballast, allowing the media the opportunity to think about the likely outcomes/challenges ahead of Sunday’s races.
Teams may only use the option tyre in each of the three races three times during the course of the season – meaning they can only use it in race three at a maximum of three events, race two at three events etc. If the team chooses to use the option tyre in a race that turns out to be wet, they have to attempt to use the option tyre in the day’s next race. The option tyre allocation does not carry over across race meetings
