Like most racing drivers, Aiden Moffat’s career began in karting, competing at his local circuit where he won the championship in 2011. Whilst karting, Moffat began his venture into car racing, competing in a Junior Bangers series in 2010. Moffat won his first ever race and would win the title in both 2010 and 2011. He also competed in the Scottish Championship in 2011, where he would triumph, once again being crowned champion.
A clear future-star, the teenager made the decision to step-up to the Motorsport News Ford Fiesta Junior Championship. In his second year in the series, Moffat narrowly missed out on the title by only six points, after claiming no fewer than nine victories from ten starts in the last ten rounds that season.
Aged just 16 years, ten months and 28 days, Moffat created history in 2013 by becoming the youngest driver ever to enter the BTCC when he made his debut in at Knockhill – a record previously held by Tom Chilton. He switched to Team HARD’s Volkswagen CC for Silverstone and Brands Hatch where he would grab his first points-scoring finishes, before returning full-time in 2014 in a Laser Tools Racing Chevrolet Cruze.
The outfit switched to an all-new Mercedes-Benz A-Class for 2015, run by Ciceley Motorsport, and Moffat celebrated a popular maiden top three finish in front of his adoring home crowd at Knockhill. Continuing with Laser Tools Racing in 2016, he continued to progress in the series, notching up 138 points across the calendar.
In 2017, Moffat secured a popular maiden victory at Donington Park. He signed off the season with a second BTCC win following a stellar drive on the famous Brands Hatch GP circuit. In 2018, Moffat would again be victorious, taking victory at Silverstone.
For 2019, Laser Tools Racing ran the A-Class before switching to the Infiniti Q50 for the second half of the campaign. Just missing out on repeating the feat from the previous year, the car finished runner-up in Moffat’s hands at Silverstone.
Having driven his Infiniti Q50 to 15th overall in 2020, Moffat continued in the Laser Tools Racing machine in his second full campaign in the car for the 2021 season, where he bagged a maiden pole position at Croft which he converted in style to victory and finished in the points on 25 occasions, capping off his best season in the BTCC.
In 2023, the Scotsman made the switch to One Motorsport, in a Honda Civic Type R. The season would prove historic as Moffat celebrated his 300th race start in the championship and achieved his 14th BTCC podium.
