Daryl DeLeon feels 'at home' in first BMW outing

21st March 2025

After his first full season in the BTCC, Daryl DeLeon made the switch to drive the BMW 330e M Sport for West Surrey Racing in 2025.

The 19-year old has been getting up to speed in his new machinery with one day of running under his belt in the new #2 numbered car.

"It's good. Once there's tyre temp in and once you're up and running, it feels nice," DeLeon told the BTCC Media Team at Brands Hatch.

"I think going back to the rear-wheel drive you always sort of have to adapt to it, but I'm really enjoying it so far. The team are excellent. I feel comfortable already working with my crew, my engineers, and really happy with everything so far.

"My main background is in rear-wheel drive, and going back to it, you just want to get comfortable, but the first few laps today, I was just building into it, getting used to it.

Depriving the drivers instinct to chase lap time the Anglo-Filipino driver has been reluctant to look at the timesheets in his debut outing for WSR.

"I haven't seen any lap times today, so I don't have a clue. We're not too focused on times today. I just want to get comfortable in the car, learn as much as I can with it and make a few tweaks to make sure I'm happy.

"I'm at home. Even with the shakedown, as soon as I got in it and got up to speed and just getting a feel, getting some energy through the car, I do feel really at home now."

The 45-time race starter is not easing on preparation for the season in his new environment.

"I think the more seat time I get, the more comfortable I'm going to be. I'm just going to keep working on it until race day arrives."

DeLeon and the rest of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship grid get the season underway at Donington Park on 26/27 April.
