NAPA Racing UK has today (15 December) confirmed three-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Dan Cammish will make his Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship return in 2022 with the squad stating its intentions on the most coveted prize in British motorsport.
Run by Motorbase Performance – a team with vast experience in the BTCC – NAPA Racing will debut next year in the UK’s premier motor racing category and the brand is already making big waves by signing the Leeds driver.
Cammish will mount a major title push with NAPA Racing UK next season, driving one of the quartet of Ford Focus STs set to hit the track in 2022. The campaign will mark his first full season in the BTCC since 2020, when he was a four-time race winner and title contender.
Sealing a record-breaking third Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship crown this year, having previously won the coveted title in 2015 and 2016, Cammish actually started 2021 with a one-off outing in the BTCC during the series curtain-raiser at Thruxton – securing P2 in the second race of the day.
Having made his debut in 2018 and impressing with two victories during his rookie season, Cammish starred in 2019.
Taking two race wins and a further 12 podiums, he only missed out on a famous title victory by a mere two points after a heart-breaking mechanical failure on the penultimate lap of the final race.
In 2020, along with four more victories and six other podiums, Cammish was third in the overall driver standings for the second consecutive year – only two points away from ending the season as runner up.
The arrival of NAPA Racing UK in the BTCC with Motorbase Performance, which was announced just days ago, will see the new partnership eyeing big things when the season gets underway at Donington Park on 23/24 April.
Pete Osborne, Motorbase Performance Team Owner and Team Principal said: “Dan was a key element for our plans going into 2022. It’s a big year for us in many ways and we acknowledged that we needed a specific type of driver, of which there aren’t many around. In Dan, we have someone we can really work with and rely on his talent and experience, along with his character.
“Dan had another really successful season in 2021 in Porsche Carrera Cup GB and he has a lot of unfinished business in the BTCC, so he’s in the right place right now and knows exactly what to expect from us at NAPA Racing UK. As a driver and team, our targets are the same, we’re expecting success on and off track and we aim to enjoy the journey together. The whole team is buzzing with excitement at the moment, there is a really good feeling about the future of Motorbase.”
Dan Cammish, NAPA Racing UK, said: “I am very happy to be joining NAPA Racing UK ahead of the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season. It was obvious from my first time meeting Motorbase owner Pete Osborne that I wanted to be part of this program, and after spending quality time with the team, it is clear this is a very exciting time for all involved.
“Everyone is working hard to give the team the best possible chance and it fills me with confidence when I see the work taking place behind the scenes. I am incredibly proud to be representing NAPA in UK motorsport and I believe this is just the start of a long and successful partnership. This is a new chapter for me in the BTCC and I can't wait to get started and pick up where I left off.”
Steve Richardson, Alliance Automotive Group UK Manager, NAPA Racing said: “Dan is a phenom on the BTCC racing circuit. We are confident that he will bring his years of expertise and significant talent to the table to kickstart the NAPA Racing movement in the UK. This is the start of an enthusiastic partnership between NAPA and Motorbase Performance.”
