Sutton holds commanding advantage as Ingram and Cammish lead the chase
The 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship heads to Croft this weekend (5/6 September), with the North Yorkshire circuit hosting Rounds 22, 23 and 24 as the campaign enters its final three events.
Adam Morgan (CPRL – Mercedes) was the star of the show last time out at Donington Park GP, claiming two victories to make it three wins across the last two events, while Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) took the remaining success with his second victory of the season.
Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) continues to lead the way in the Drivers’ Championship, extending his advantage to 98 points over Tom Ingram (Team VERTU – Hyundai), with Cammish now just five points further back. With nine races remaining and Croft’s challenging 2.13-mile layout next on the agenda, the stakes continue to rise as the season heads towards its conclusion.
Back where it began
Croft provides familiar ground for the 2026 grid, with the North Yorkshire circuit having hosted the championship’s official pre-season test back in March. Five months and seven race weekends later, the field returns to the venue where the first clues of the campaign emerged, only now with the stakes considerably higher.
Tom Ingram (Team VERTU – Hyundai) initially led the way during that test with a 1m20.455s effort, before Daryl De Leon (WSR – BMW) ultimately topped the two days with a 1m20.417s lap. Underlining the pace already shown by the current field around a circuit combining high-speed commitment with a technical final sector.
The championship picture looked different when Croft hosted the BTCC 12 months ago. Ingram won the opening race to take control of the standings before Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) snatched victory in the finale following a dramatic four-car fight at the Hairpin. Ingram left North Yorkshire with an eight-point championship advantage over Sutton. This time, Sutton arrives 98 points clear.
Croft has certainly been a happy hunting ground for both. Over the last five years, Sutton has taken more victories at the circuit than any other driver with two, while Ingram’s six podium finishes lead the way during the same period. Sutton’s six career Croft triumphs are also the most of anyone on the current grid, ahead of Gordon Shedden (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport – Toyota) on four and Josh Cook (Speedworks Corolla Racing – Toyota) on three, with Ingram and Tom Chilton (Team VERTU – Hyundai) both having won twice.
Ingram also owns both of Croft’s lap records following his performances last season, setting the 1m20.522s Qualifying benchmark before posting a 1m21.374s fastest race lap. With nine races now remaining, the reigning champion will be looking to turn that proven Croft pace into the points required to begin reducing Sutton’s advantage.
Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) has his own important weekend ahead on home soil. The Yorkshireman finished second to Ingram in the opening race at Croft last year and now sits just five points behind the Team VERTU driver in the standings, making the battle for second every bit as significant as the pursuit of Sutton at the top.
Adam Morgan (CPRL – Mercedes) has meanwhile surged into fourth following a remarkable run of form, with three victories across Knockhill and Donington Park GP lifting him to 222 points. Behind him, only 23 points separate Ricky Collard (Team VERTU – Hyundai) in fifth and Mikey Doble (LKQ Euro Car Parts with Power Maxed Racing – Audi) in tenth.
Doble continues to lead the Independent Drivers’ standings heading into the weekend, while Dexter Patterson (Steel Seal with Power Maxed Racing – Audi) remains at the head of the Jack Sears Trophy. With points again available in Saturday’s ‘Race to Pole’ before three further contests on Sunday, every opportunity becomes increasingly valuable as Croft begins the final three-event run to the 2026 finale.
TV, Timetables and Tickets
Complementing the tin top racing will be a sensational line-up of support series, as the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Porsche Sprint Challenge Great Britain, F4 British Championship certified by FIA and the MINI CHALLENGE Trophy complete the schedule of exciting races.
BTCC will be wowing the crowds both trackside and at home, with Saturday's 'Race to Pole' and the earlier qualifying session being streamed live via ITV Sport's YouTube Channel from 1400, before ITV4's seven-and-a-half-hour race day broadcast gets underway at 1115 on Sunday.
