One of the stars of the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, Colin Turkington, made a flying visit from his home in Northern Ireland to be at Autosport International this weekend. With eyes now turning to 2014, Turkington reflects on an impressive return to the championship for eBay Motors driving the 1 Series BMW:
“I can look back on a great year really from where we started. The first few races were difficult and we didn’t know where we’d fall into the pack. There were a few complications with the brand new car, so I didn’t really expect to be challenging for the title – certainly after the first three events.
“Then we had a real purple patch in the summer, I won five races and I think at one stage I was close to the top of the championship. There were just a few too many weekends that didn’t really happen for us.”
Despite hinting at a season assault in 2014, the Ulsterman still can’t confirm any details of his negotiations. We can, however, expect an announcement to come in the near future, as Turkington continued:
“I can’t say just yet exactly what’s going to happen this year – like many people we’re still dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, but hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can make an announcement.
“I've worked so hard to get back into this series – it’s only when you’re out of it that you realise how much you miss it and want to do it and the championship is definitely on the bounce at the moment. It’s a great time to be involved.”
