Clean sweep for WSR at Night of Champions

24th November 2014

The annual TOCA Night of Champions took place at the weekend (22 November), bringing down the curtain on a quite sensational 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Legendary presenter Steve Rider introduced the stars of the championship in his unmistakable style while ITV commentator David Addison was on hand to interview guests and prize winners.

Taking place at the impressive Crowne Plaza Heythrop Park hotel – owned by championship hotel partner IHG – the evening saw the TOCA paddock reconvene one final time before the close of the year.

Champions from the TOCA support series were first up to collect their awards as Mike Bushell (Clio Cup), Charlie Robertson (Ginetta GT4 Supercup), Jack Mitchell (Ginetta Juniors), Josh Webster (Carrera Cup) and Jayde Kruger (Formula Ford) made their way to the stage.

The BTCC celebrations kicked off with the Jack Sears Trophy, which was won last year by Lea Wood. The inaugural BTCC champion Jack Sears was again on hand to award the huge trophy that carries his name, as Dave Newsham claimed the honours this time around.

Independent teams’ and drivers’ celebrations followed before the overall teams’, manufacturers’ and drivers’ trophies were officially presented.

Mat Jackson (Motorbase) and Jason Plato (Triple Eight) collected their runners-up spoils for the independents drivers’ and drivers’ championships respectively, whilst MG’s Guy Jones proudly collected the manufacturers’ trophy for the world famous British marque.

The biggest cheers were saved for eBay Motors as the West Surrey Racing-run squad were out in force to collect its incredible quadruple clean sweep of silverware.

An informal and humourous speech from Series Director Alan Gow then preceded a beautiful banquet, before music and after dinner drinks took the celebrations into the small hours.
