Speedworks Corolla Racing enjoyed one of its strongest weekends of the 2026 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season at Thruxton, with Josh Cook delivering a dominant display that included pole position, a race win and a podium finish, while Ryan Bensley made an encouraging BTCC debut with the Cheshire-based squad.
The UK's fastest circuit provided the perfect stage for the Toyota Corolla GR Sport to showcase its pace, with the team immediately establishing itself as the benchmark during Saturday's qualifying session.
Cook produced a sensational lap to secure pole position from title rival Tom Ingram (Team VERTU), underlining both his confidence around Thruxton and the outright performance of the Speedworks-run package.
Alongside him, Bensley enjoyed an encouraging first qualifying session for the team, securing 17th on the grid, making his competitive debut in the #7 and continuing to build experience in touring cars.
Cook converted the prime starting position into pole position during Saturday's Race to Pole encounter, successfully absorbing relentless pressure from both Ingram and Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK) throughout the contest. Rarely afforded a moment to relax, Cook produced a flawless drive to secure maximum points ahead of Sunday's opening race.
Unfortunately, Bensley's Race to Pole ended prematurely following contact, forcing an early retirement despite another encouraging display.
Sunday began in equally impressive fashion as the #66 once again demonstrated his race craft and composure to convert pole position into victory in race one.
Although Sutton remained firmly within striking distance throughout the race, Cook never faltered, controlling the pace superbly to secure the first victory of the weekend.
Bensley continued his learning process by bringing the Corolla home in 19th position after another competitive midfield performance.
Race two presented a fresh challenge, with significantly reduced boost available to Cook following his earlier success. The Bath-born driver would end the bout in third after being penalised for an incident involving Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK), dropping from second to the third step of the podium.
Bensley was once again involved in close midfield battles throughout the race, overcoming contact and continuing to gain valuable experience before finishing 19th, narrowly missing out on his maiden BTCC championship points.
The reverse-grid finale promised another opportunity for silverware. Cook made an excellent start and quickly established himself inside the leading group, looking well placed to challenge for another podium before contact at the final chicane ended his weekend early.
Bensley's weekend also ended prematurely after contact with Lewis Selby (NAPA Racing UK) caused his retirement just three laps into the final bout of the weekend.
Despite the disappointment of the closing encounter, Speedworks Corolla Racing leaves Hampshire with considerable encouragement. Pole position, triumphs in both the Race to Pole and race one, together with a further podium finish, represent the team's strongest points hauls of the season, while Bensley's pace and professionalism on his debut provide plenty of optimism heading into the remainder of the championship.
