The 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship returns to Donington Park this weekend (30/31 August), as the title race builds towards its annual crescendo.
Reigning champion Jake Hill (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport) claimed a dominant double victory at Knockhill last time out, after a weekend out of action for the first time in the #1’s career following an illness that sidelined the Kent-racer at Croft.
Team VERTU’s Tom Ingram – the championship leader – also added a win to his tally and extended his advantage over four-time champion Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK) to 17 points, with Dan Cammish and Dan Rowbottom (both NAPA Racing UK) remaining firmly in contention.
Hill’s double triumph came after a commanding display in qualifying, where the WSR BMWs locked out the front row thanks to Charles Rainford’s first career pole position in professional motorsport and stablemate Daryl DeLeon. In Race 1, Hill led home a WSR one-two, converting pace into a convincing victory ahead of polesitter Rainford.
Ingram’s win in Race 2 helped him consolidate his points lead, while Sutton and Cammish battled through the field to finish on the podium. The Knockhill finale saw Hill complete his double, with Sutton and Cammish once again completing the podium positions.
The Independents’ category continues to be closely fought, with Chris Smiley (Restart Racing) maintaining a slender lead over his rivals. Meanwhile, the Jack Sears Trophy remains a hotly contested battle, with DeLeon narrowly holding off teammate Rainford following his podium finish in Scotland.
With 201 points still available across the final three weekends, Donington Park provides the perfect stage for the next chapter of the 2025 season. On the series’ second visit to the Leicestershire circuit, this time on the famed GP loop, teams and drivers will be looking to lay down a marker on the challenging circuit, as the championship momentum builds towards Silverstone and the Brands Hatch finale.
Local lads and leading lights
The championship now moves to Donington Park’s Grand Prix circuit, a 2.49-mile layout steeped in BTCC history and famed for its fast, flowing corners. It’s a favourite with both drivers and fans alike, delivering high-speed battles and unpredictable racing.
Home hero Dan Rowbottom (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) will have plenty of local support as he looks to build on a strong campaign, while TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA will treat the event as a home race, with the manufacturer’s Burnaston factory just a short drive away. The Speedworks Motorsport-run squad also welcomes the returning Josh Cook, who claimed pole position here last season in a Toyota Corolla GR Sport, the fourth and most recent of his career.
Form suggests the honours could go several ways: BMW excelled in 2024 with Colin Turkington and Hill both starring, and off the back of WSR’s strong showing at Knockhill, the four-car stable will be buoyed to return. While NAPA Racing UK locked out two wins through Sutton and Cammish, the former is the only driver on the current grid with more than one win on the layout, Ford is the only manufacturer with more than one victory as well.
Ingram, meanwhile, holds the race lap record after a barnstorming race three, one year ago, as the now championship leader rose from 19th to second in the final bout of the weekend, and will be aiming to extend his points lead at a track that has traditionally suited his Hyundai.
The weekend will also be one of milestones: Cammish is set for his 200th BTCC start, while Ingram will mark his 350th.
