Hill continues good BMW form with pace-setting FP1 at Snetterton

24th May 2025

Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport's Jake Hill set the pace in a damp opening BTCC free practice session at Snetterton.

The benchmark was set relatively early in the 35 minutes of running, as conditions fluctuated amidst light rain around the 2.97-mile layout.

Having taken all three wins at the shortest circuit on the calendar last time out, the successes for Hill, Charles Rainford and Daryl DeLeon have buoyed the BMW squad as the championship moves to the longest layout in the schedule.

Rainford's #99 BMW was second on the timesheets in FP1 here at Snetterton, whilst DeLeon was fourth, as NAPA Racing UK's Dan Cammish was the only driver to break up the WSR trio.

"It was my first time driving the car in the wet so that gives me confidence if it rains later in the weekend," said Rainford. "As ever, Dick Bennetts and WSR have given me a great racing car, it's slippery out there but great fun, so I'm happy with the end result.

"It's self belief now that I've done it (won a BTCC race). It's too early in the season to start thinking of bigger aspirations, we need to keep learning, picking up points, and trying to improve."

Ash Sutton was sixth in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus, whilst Aron Taylor-Smith rounded out the top six during an encouraging showing for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA.

Daniel Rowbottom (NAPA Racing UK) and Josh Cook (One Motorsport) were seventh and eighth respectively, as Tom Ingram (Team VERTU) boycotted his final flying lap to remain in ninth.

Aiden Moffat ensured all four BMWs were inside the top ten as the Scotsman looks to add his name to the 2025 winners list this weekend.

The first two events of the year – at Donington Park and Brands Hatch – were basked in glorious sunshine so this morning's run represented the first time that teams and drivers could run the Goodyear wet tyre. Others chose to run dry tyres at varying points in FP1 with the weather expected to improve for the remainder of the weekend.

Free Practice 2 at 1220 before qualifying for Round 7 of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship commences at 1510, which will be streamed live by the ITV Sport YouTube channel.
