Tom Chilton takes commanding triumph at Donington Park

27th April 2025

Team Vertu's Tom Chilton claimed a commanding triumph in the final Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship encounter at Donington Park, providing just reward for the experienced racer having shown fantastic pace during pre-season and throughout the weekend.

Chilton – starting from pole position by virtue of the reverse grid draw – made a solid getaway from the grid, as a stream of cars bulked up behind second placed Dan Rowbottom in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus.

Jake Hill had today's two main protagonists – Tom Ingram (Team Vertu) and Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK) – immediately behind him and the duo soon relinquished the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport BMW driver of third position.

Next on the hitlist was Rowbottom with Ingram's #80 Hyundai i30N soon slicing by, before Sutton was also through soon enough. Another battle royale commenced between the duo, as Sutton chased an incredible hat-trick. Having already done the double Sutton waited until the final few laps to attack old adversary Ingram.

Ultimately, it wasn't enough as Chilton led home team-mate Ingram and four-time champion Sutton to complete a popular podium.

Dan Cammish (NAPA Racing UK) and Adam Morgan (Team Vertu) were fourth and fifth respectively, whilst Rowbottom eventually had to settle for sixth.

Mikey Doble (Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing), Chris Smiley (Restart Racing) and Aiden Moffat (LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR) completed their own impressive race days with another run of solid points finishes, whilst reigning champ Hill came home in tenth.

As the huge crowd make its way out of the famous venue it is Sutton leading the early standings by seven points from Ingram, with Chilton just behind, whilst the WSR BMW stable will be looking to bring a stronger challenge to Brands Hatch in two weeks' time.
