Restart Racing are not new to touring car racing. They won another tin top championship as recent as 2022 with current driver Chris Smiley. The new BTCC outfit brought a two-car team straight to the 2024 grid.
Smiley, a BTCC winner, is spearheading the operation alongside long-time partners, Peter Jones and Ben Taylor. In 2024, the team acquired a pair of Cupra Leons and picked up multiple Independent wins en route to second in the class.
Returning for its second season of BTCC action in 2025, the Norfolk-based squad made the jump to race Hyundai i30 Ns after a technical partnership with EXCELR8 Motorsport was formed. Retaining Chris Smiley and bringing in BTCC returnee and previous race winner, Dan Lloyd, gave the team two drivers with previous experience with the car as it looks to make the jump to more front-running competition.
The move paid off, as Lloyd would bring home the team's maiden victory at Silverstone, en route to taking the Independent Drivers' title, as the team picked up the Independent Teams' title as well.
In 2026, Smiley and the Hyundai i30 Ns return, this time with James Dorlin alongside the BTCC race winner.
