Ash Sutton heads wet-dry FP1 session at Thruxton

7th June 2025

Four-time BTCC champion Ash Sutton topped the times during a soggy opening practice session at Thruxton.

The session commenced in largely dry conditions before moderate rain began to descend onto the fastest circuit in the country.

An early switch to the Goodyear wet tyres led to a flurry of lap times, with Thruxton specialist Josh Cook leading the way in his One Motorsport Honda Civic Type R midway through the session.

As conditions improved during the closing minutes a handful of drivers were able to switch back to the dry hard Goodyear compound, as NAPA Racing UK's Sutton set the pace on his penultimate tour.

The #116's time of 1:15.677s was actually under the existing race lap record, which was quite a feat considering the blustery and damp conditions.

The BMW's of Aiden Moffat (LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR) and Jake Hill (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport) slotted into second and third respectively, albeit more than half a second slower than Sutton's benchmark, whilst Restart Racing's Daniel Lloyd was fourth.

Team VERTU's Adam Morgan continued his good form with fifth while Charles Rainford (LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR) made it three BMWs in the top six.

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA's wedged his Corolla in-between the NAPA Racing UK Fords of Dan Cammish and Dan Rowbottom on the timesheets, the latter two fresh from a victory apiece at Snetterton last time out.

Series returnee Senna Proctor will be one to watch this weekend and the Team VERTU made a solid start with tenth in FP1.

Rain is expected on and off throughout the day so we will await to what conditions the drivers and teams will face during FP2 (12:00) and Qualifying (15:00)
