Croft Circuit, 30 June, 2015: SAFE has completed a successful prove-out of its innovative GENIUS road cleaning service at the Croft round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship last weekend (27/28 June).

Seen for the first time on UK soil and due to operate at all BTCC events for the remainder of this season and beyond, the SAFE GENIUS is an advanced road-cleaning machine and accident management service that mitigates the risk of slippage and secondary road traffic accidents to reduce injuries and save lives.

The BTCC round provided an ideal showcase for this innovative technology with its worldwide reputation for ultra close racing and on-track action.  SAFE will soon make this unique technology and service available to local highway authorities and accident management firms who look after the UK’s extensive road network.

Ryan Walkinshaw, son of the motorsport legend, Tom Walkinshaw, and founder of Fusion Greenstar who operate the SAFE GENIUS service in the UK, said: “The BTCC round at Croft was the perfect stage to demonstrate the SAFE GENIUS for the very first time in the UK especially given the BTCC is the biggest and highest-profile British motorsport championship.

“The reasons to return the road surface to its original condition is the same whether it’s at a racetrack or out on our local and national roads - driver safety is paramount as is minimising delays to other motorists, and in this particular case, the racing action for the fans. Removing all liquid from the roadway effectively increases safety and reduces degradation of the road surface. Furthermore, the suction technology will reduce the impact of contaminants polluting the surrounding environment.”

Alan Gow, BTCC Series Director, said: “With such close and competitive racing in the BTCC and the support championships there are invariably racing accidents as drivers fight for every position. We were delighted with the performance of the SAFEGENIUS unit at the Croft Circuit this past weekend as it made the track completely clean and safe following an incident as all the liquid was removed from the Tarmac. The quick operation also meant there were no delays to the jam-packed race programme, ensuring the fans didn’t miss a single minute of the action.

“The use in the BTCC of this bespoke system is a first for British motorsport and is perfectly suited to motor racing. I’m also very proud that the BTCC is, yet again, at the forefront in providing a safer and more efficient motorsport environment”.

The system works by using patented mechanical suction technology, and unlike vacuums, can be used to clean-up combustible liquids from the road surface. Once the road is free of harmful liquids, the carriageway is washed and returned to its original state.
