Movers and shakers 📈📉

The 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship was yet another fiercely contested affair, with the battle once again heading right to the wire in the final race of the year at Brands Hatch. Read on and take a look at our infographic below to find out how each of the standings' top ten drivers have progressed this season...

Adrian Flux Subaru Racing's Ashley Sutton seized the crown at the last and this year's winning points tally was such that his impressive maiden campaign in the BTCC was left eclipsed by his second. He accrued a massive 210-point boost over his 2016 score – lifting him from 13th in the standings to the top of the tree with a pace-setting six victories along the way. This ensured that of every driver in the top ten, Sutton was the one that made the most progress in terms of final championship position over the ten race weekends.

The leap that Speedworks Motorsport's Tom Ingram made on the way to sealing both Independents' titles was only bettered by champion Sutton – ninety-two points and seven places better off for the Indy champ in what was undoubtedly both his and Speedworks' best year yet in Britain's premier motor racing championship. The High Wycombe man also led the most laps and garnered the best average qualifying position.

Colin Turkington had closed to within just six points of top spot after a storming comeback drive in Round 29 but contact cruelly dashed the Team BMW man's hopes in the finale. Even accounting for that late disappointment, the Ulsterman's points haul over the course of the season was a 62-point improvement on his 2016 effort and enough to lift him two spots in the standings to second.

Eurotech Racing's Jack Goff, too, enjoyed his most impressive season to date with a victory and six further podium finishes steering him to a best-yet points total of 245, 52-points gained over his 2016 effort.

Interestingly, outgoing champion Gordon Shedden scored a point more than he did in 2016 when he sealed his third BTCC title – such was the level competition at the very top this year.
