Making it three outfits lifting the trophy in each of the team contested championships, BMW left the 2024 campaign crowned as record holding Manufacturers/Constructers’ Champions. Breaking the double digit barrier and now being victorious on ten occasions, Jake Hill and Colin Turkington sealed the deal at the death as the curtain fell on the 2024 season.
The beginning of the season was bright for all under the BMW banner as the trio of Adam Morgan, Hill and Turkington would place the German marque atop the standings. Despite two race wins from the #20, the WSR-run outfit would see its lead fall from seven points to two after the first visit to Brands Hatch.
That number one spot would disappear after Snetterton despite Hill’s heroic double victory, one of those triumphs even came with a ten second time penalty for jumping the start. Bobby Thompson was also on scoring duties in his one and only outing for the Bavarian brand highlighted with a second place finish behind the eventual 2024 Drivers’ Champion.
Out in front the gap would continue to grow into the second half of the season standing at its largest after the trip to the North Yorkshire circuit of Croft. Staring at a 39 point deficit that had continuously grown for four rounds straight would dissolve many squads hopes of taking the title. Not for anyone at WSR.
At the eighth and the penultimate event of the season the gap stood at only four points at its largest and two at its smallest. A stark turnaround towards the end of the season put BMW in a much better position than it had sat two events previous.
Leaving all to play for at the finale held at Brands Hatch, BMW would retake the lead of the championship that they had not led since the first trip to Brands Hatch five months earlier. Not only did they snatch the lead back at the death, they opened the gap to win by 23 points, the joint-third highest gap between first and second all season long.
