Lloyd takes positives from Croft ahead of trip to Knockhill

8th August 2023

Daniel Lloyd faces Knockhill this weekend (12/13 August) on the back of his fourth top-ten finish of the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship campaign.

A positive start to the weekend at Croft (29/30 July), saw Lloyd lap inside the top ten in both free practice sessions, and he was then able to secure eleventh on the grid for the opening race.

The Autobrite Direct with Millers Oils driver made a solid start to the opening race to climb into the top ten on the medium tyre, but an incident at Sunny dropped him back to 15th place. Despite this, Lloyd showed the pace in the Cupra Leon to fight his way back to twelfth at the finish, leaving him well-placed going into race two on the more favourable soft rubber.

Making up a position at the start, the 31-year-old moved ahead of NAPA Racing UK's Sam Osborne into the top ten and chased down the pack of cars ahead fighting for fifth – before eventually crossing the line in ninth place.

Unfortunately in the final bout, an incident ended Lloyd's race early, bringing a positive weekend to a tough conclusion.

"It didn’t end the way I wanted it to, but overall it’s been a really positive weekend," said Lloyd. "We were able to take the things that we learned at Donington Park during the test and build on them when we got here, which was reflected in the pace we showed in the car.

"From free practice, we were right in the mix inside the top ten and even though we just missed out in qualifying, we knew we had good race pace to fight for some strong results.

"The opening race was unfortunate and was largely a case of wrong place, wrong time, but we still came away from it with a decent result and our race pace on the soft tyre in race two was really strong, and allowed us to get up into the top ten.

"Unfortunately I got caught out on the oil dropped in race three which is a shame as I think we’d have been on for another top ten, even running the hard tyre. However, that’s just a race to put behind us and focus on the progression we have made with the car, which leaves me full of confidence for the races to come."

Next up is the trip to Knockhill in Scotland in a few days time (12/13 August).
