Ingram tops truncated second practice session

2nd August 2025

Team VERTU's Tom Ingram doubled up by topping both Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship free practice sessions, with the 2022 champion setting an even faster pace in the second run at Croft.

Ingram had already dipped more than half a second under the existing fastest qualifying lap in FP1 – the record having previously been set by team-mate Tom Chilton in 2024 – and the Hyundai star went almost two tenths quicker in FP2.

There was drama even before the green flag waved as four-time champion Colin Turkington substituted for reigning champ Jake Hill, with the latter feeling unwell, and a decision yet to be made on who will drive the car for the remainder of the weekend.

The on-track action was also dramatic as Chilton had a sizeable shunt on the exit of Clervaux, with his Team VERTU squad now having to repair his stricken Hyundai i30N in time for qualifying.

Senna Proctor was second in the sister Hyundai whilst TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA's duo Árón Taylor-Smith and Gordon Shedden fired their Corollas into the top five, with Restart Racing's Chris Smiley wedged between them on the timesheets in fourth.

Chilton held onto sixth despite his accident, whilst the NAPA Racing UK pair of Dan Rowbottom and Ash Sutton were next in the order.

Restart Racing's Daniel Lloyd and LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR's Aiden Moffat rounded out the top ten.

The session was brought to a premature end when the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA Corolla of James Dorlin had an off in the closing minutes.

Qualifying for Round 16 of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship takes place at 1530 later today and will be streamed LIVE via the ITV Sport YouTube channel.
