Gordon Shedden scores final BTCC win of the season

12th October 2014

Honda Yuasa Racing ended its season on a high with Gordon Shedden winning the final Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship race of the season at Brands Hatch.

After a difficult day that saw Shedden nudged out of race one, and his team-mate Matt Neal in hospital for a precautionary X-ray after he too was caught up in the incident, the 2012 champion produced a stellar drive to win in treacherous conditions.

BTCC rookie Jack Clarke scored an incredible second placed finish after seeing off a number of challengers throughout the contest. The young gun lost out to the fast-starting BMW of Nick Foster off the line but he retook the lead with a great move at Graham Hill Bend.

Shedden made light work of Foster and immediately set about attacking Clarke ahead of him. The 26-year-old held on well for a number of laps before the Scotsman slipped through on the exit of Hawthorns.

Despite a late safety car period following a spin for Martin Depper, Shedden drove away from the field to take a comfortable victory.

Clarke came under pressure from Aron Smith, but when the VW driver was tipped wide through Druids by Mat Jackson his challenge immediately faded. Airwaves Racing's Jackson chased stable-mate Clarke for the remainder of the bout but the younger racer held on with relative ease.

MG's Sam Tordoff took fourth ahead of Smith, whilst exiting champion Andrew Jordan held off the surging Jason Plato until the finish. Plato lost his race two victory shortly before the start of the final contest after the stewards awarded him a 20 second penalty for his part in the Colin Turkington incident. Plato subsequently chose to start from the pitlane before blasting his way through the field to finish in an impressive seventh.

Foster's BMW faded to take eighth, whilst Speedworks' Tom Ingram and and Quantel Bifold's Marc Hynes rounded out the top ten.

Race two winner Adam Morgan took 11th ahead of Dave Newsham, who claimed the 2014 Jack Sears Trophy in the process.
