Josh Cook set the fastest lap time of the day so far as BTCC hit the track for FP2, before a mid-session rain shower halted any further progress on the timesheets at Croft.
The LKQ Euro Car Parts with SYNETIQ driver moved up to fifth in the overall standings at Oulton Park last time out – edging closer towards the championship battle – and the Toyota man again looks to be on form here in North Yorkshire.
The Team BRISTOL STREET MOTORS duo of Tom Chilton and Tom Ingram were second and third, the latter having already set a benchmark in the opening session.
Chris Smiley enjoyed an impressive run to claim fourth for Restart Racing, before the heavens opened in the latter stages.
Dan Rowbottom (NAPA Racing UK), Colin Turkington (Team BMW) and Rob Huff (TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK) were next in the order – the trio having shown solid pace during both practice sessions.
Adam Morgan (Team BMW) and Jake Hill (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport) ensured that all three BMWs were inside the top nine, at a circuit that has so often been a happy hunting ground for the Bavarian marque.
Andrew Watson completed a solid day for TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK as he rounded out the top ten.
Qualifying for Round 16 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship takes place at 1500 later today and will be streamed LIVE via the ITV Sport YouTube channel.
