CHAMPIONS’ FOCUS: TEAMS' – NAPA RACING UK

17th October 2022

When NAPA Racing UK announced its bid for the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship last year, fans and rivals alike predicted that the driver line-up of Dan Cammish and Ash Sutton could prove potent, and the squad was indeed in the mix throughout its rookie campaign, ending the year as the 2022 Teams' Champions.

Having lost out initially, the Wrotham-based outfit chipped away at its challengers' advantages, rising to second in the standings by the halfway mark of the campaign.

A strong outing at Snetterton's mid-season Goodyear tyre test buoyed the team's confidence, where Sutton and Cammish would top the times over the two-day test, but Cammish's bad luck from earlier in the season would rear its head again before the pendulum swung the other way.

Having struggled to make his way onto the top step of the podium during the initial half of the season, Sutton managed to secure a maiden victory for the team during Knockhill's second race, but the second visit to Thruxton on the calendar really marked a change in fortunes for the Motorbase Performance-run squad.

Cammish would kick off the weekend with pole position before claiming a dominant lights-to-flag victory in the opener, with his team-mate finishing third, before NAPA Racing UK bagged its first-ever 1-2 finish in the second bout – the resulting points hauls putting them back into second in the title fight.

This performance proved enough to put Cammish and Sutton both in fighting form, as the pair secured a string of top-ten finishes in the remaining six rounds to seal the Teams' crown with a 57-point advantage.

“The whole team can hold their heads high this season. Winning the Teams’ Championship is a huge achievement in the BTCC and we proved numerous times this season to be the envy of others with our incredible team spirit. There were a lot of changes over the winter which can often take time to work effectively, but the mixture of the original crew and the new members to the team proved to create a winning formula – a team I’m incredibly proud to be a part of! Congratulations to Tom Ingram and his team on a job well done this season. We now get to concentrate fully on some exciting plans over the winter with NAPA Racing UK and we’re more determined than ever to come back and claim the number ‘1’ back from Tom next year.”
