The 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship will commence its official pre-season programme tomorrow (29 March), as Donington Park plays host to the opening Hybrid Installation Test.
The BTCC will become the first major touring car series in the world to integrate hybrid power with all cars running the new TOCA Hybrid system for the 2022 campaign.
Cosworth Electronics – chosen to design, supply and service the TOCA Hybrid system – have worked alongside a number of BTCC technical partners in completing nearly three seasons worth of testing mileage, prior to distributing the approved system to all BTCC teams in recent weeks.
All teams will be present at Donington Park, where the majority of cars will run the hybrid system, although some teams are still to complete the installation process on all of their cars. Two further official test days are scheduled at Croft (6 April) and Thruxton (13 April), where it is expected that all cars will run the TOCA Hybrid system.
As ever, due to the variables during test sessions, overall lap times are unlikely to be representative as every team works through their respective pre-season programmes.
In terms of final entries, the three TBLs that were to be loaned (for one season only) each to Team Dynamics, BTC Racing and Speedworks Motorsport will now not be utilised.
Instead, the grid will remain at the normal 29 full entries – the number of TBLs in the hands of the teams – as it has been for the last two seasons.
The full 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship entry list will be confirmed at the official Season Launch at Thruxton on 12/13 April.
