Rory Butcher, who is the brother-in-law of three-time BTCC champion Gordon Shedden, had a diverse career in motor racing prior to joining the UK’s premier championship. A relative latecomer to the racing scene, Butcher has competed in a great selection of series’ including British and Scottish Formula Ford Championships, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, British GT Championship, European Le Mans Series, Blancpain Endurance Series, VLN Endurance, and 24H Series.  

When competing in the 24H series, Butcher also raced in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2015, finishing seventh in class. 

Joining Team Shredded Wheat Racing with Duo in 2017 midway through the season, Butcher drove the Motorbase-run Ford Focus ST and secured points in a respectful four out of 12 starts. In 2018, he returned for a full campaign with AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance Racing MG6 GT, finishing 17th in the Drivers’ classification as a consistent points-finisher. 

Staying with AmD in 2019, Butcher drove a Cobra Sport AmD AutoAid/RCIB Insurance Honda Civic Type R (FK2), achieving three race wins, fifth place overall, the Independent Drivers’ crown, and the Jack Sears Trophy –marking his best BTCC season at the time. 

In 2020, Butcher returned to Ford machinery, joining Motorbase Performance. With three victories, he emerged as a championship contender, finishing the season fifth overall and second in the Independents’ battle. 

Transitioning to Toyota Gazoo Racing UK in 2021, Butcher secured three victories and multiple podium finishes, notably dominating Silverstone’s race weekend. He continued with the Northwich-based squad in 2022, achieving nine podium finishes and securing his first win at Silverstone with an impressive lights-to-flag victory. 

For the 2023 season, Butcher remained in the BTCC with Toyota Gazoo Racing UK. After a solid campaign, Butcher took a fantastic victory at Donington and would go onto finish tenth in the points standings.
