Driver Spotlight: Josh Cook

27th November 2023

In 2014, Josh Cook engaged in a fiercely contested duel with Mike Bushell for the Renault UK Clio Cup crown. Despite winning more races, Cook narrowly missed out on the title in the Brands Hatch finale. This performance propelled him onto the BTCC grid in 2015, driving a Power Maxed Racing-run Chevrolet Cruze alongside seasoned tin-top campaigner Dave Newsham.

His strong debut season in BTCC saw Cook secure seven top-ten finishes, including a podium at Rockingham. He battled for the lead in a memorable race at Donington Park, ultimately prevailing in the battle of the newcomers and lifting the Jack Sears Trophy for top rookie. Cook continued to impress in 2016 with two more podiums as part of the factory MG squad.

For the 2017 season, Cook joined Team Parker Racing with Maximum Motorsport, steering the lime green Ford Focus to fourth place at Oulton Park before switching back to MG machinery midway through the campaign.

In 2018, Cook joined the works Vauxhall effort at Power Maxed TAG Racing, claiming victories in two of the opening three race weekends. He secured four more podiums, finishing the season in sixth place in the Drivers’ standings.

Moving to BTC Racing in 2019, Cook drove the team’s newly acquired Honda Civic Type R (FK8) to three victories and a fourth-place finish in the final standings. He continued with BTC Racing in 2020, securing three wins and finishing consistently in the top ten.

Remaining with BTC Racing in 2021, Cook started the year with a double victory at Thruxton's season opener. Throughout the season, he visited the podium four more times and concluded the campaign with another pair of wins at Brands Hatch.

In 2022, coming off his career-best campaign, Cook impressively increased his win tally, claiming five victories and taking the most Thruxton victories of any BTCC driver in history. Despite facing challenges during the season, Cook secured four additional podiums and 296 points, earning him sixth place in the championship overall.

Continuing with the Brackley-based outfit for 2023, Cook once again piloted a Honda Civic Type R for One Motorsport with Starline Racing. As expected, Cook was consistently seen at the front of the pack, tallying five more podiums in 2023.
