Power Maxed Racing has today (28 February) revealed that Árón Taylor-Smith will join the squad for the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship as he embarks on his ninth BTCC campaign.
Joining series rookie Andrew Watson in one of the squad’s Vauxhall Astras, Taylor-Smith has amassed 18 rostrum results in his BTCC career, with a quartet of race victories to his name and will no doubt be aiming to add to his tally in 2023.
The Irishman brings a wealth of knowledge to the Bidford-based outfit, having partnered with the likes of titleholders Jason Plato and Colin Turkington during his time in Britain’s premier motorsport series, and hopes to hit the ground running during Donington Park’s season opener (22/23 April) as he aims to return to his winning ways.
“This is a dream come true for me,” admitted Taylor-Smith. “The dream after this is to win another race in the BTCC and the dream after that is to fight for a championship.
“I’ve watched what Adam [Weaver] and his team have put together over the years and have seen what their car is capable of on the track; I know their desire matches mine when it comes to success.
“We’ve tried to get a deal done in the past and it’s never quite come together, so I am beyond happy that it has this year. Visiting the workshop and seeing what they have done over the winter, I have never been more confident going into a season.”
“[Árón] is just a great guy,” added Team Principal Adam Weaver. “His enthusiasm is contagious and more of that in a team can never be a bad thing.
“I know Árón and Andrew will get on brilliantly and I’m really looking forward to being a part of this team. It’s everything we have been working towards – I’ve never been this excited about a BTCC campaign.”
The countdown to Donington Park’s season opener (22/23 April) continues, while the squad prepares for the official pre-season test day at Brands Hatch to kick off the season, on 12 April.
