The Dunlop BTCC will be entering a four-driver team in the third annual ‘Henry Surtees Foundation Brooklands Team Challenge’ at Mercedes-Benz World next week (1 July).
The two-hour charity endurance race, contested in Daytona DMAX high-performance karts, will boast a full grid of 35 karts featuring professional drivers plus a whole host of donators who’ll be racing with the stars.
Title sponsor Dunlop has again funded the BTCC’s entry, with all proceeds going towards the HSF, and the team will be looking to build on its impressive showing last year. Our quartet took pole position in 2013 and were fighting for a podium into the closing stages until Rob Austin received a penalty for a minor misdemeanor!
Austin is back in the squad this time around and will be joined by eBay Motors’ Rob Collard, STP Racing’s Daniel Welch and Alcosense-backed Hunter Abbott.
The fund-raising event has again garnered fantastic support from a host of star names from the worlds of motor sport, business and entertainment. Among those who have pledged their support and will be taking part in the event include legendary actor Sir Patrick Stewart OBE, BBC One’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ professional Brendan Cole and star of chart-topping band Boyzone, Shane Lynch.
Also competing from the world of motor sport will be Sam Bird, Alexander Sims, Lucas di Grassi, Darren Turner, Oliver Rowland and Jake Dennis to name but a few. Team Dunlop BTCC will even be taking on some of its own as Marc Hynes leads a Quantel Bifold Racing entry, whilst Tom Ingram is driving for EFG.
Teams who have entered the 2014 challenge include Mercedes AMG F1, Carlin Motorsport, Ginetta, Motorsport Vision, Goodwood, Vauxhall, Racing Steps Foundation and Motorsport Magazine.
During the racing programme interval John Surtees OBE will be reunited with his 1964 F1 World Championship winning Ferrari 158, to lead an exciting on-track display of iconic Team Surtees’ cars driven by Max Chilton, Sam Bird and Alexander Sims.
Following the 2-hour endurance kart race there will be a Champagne and Canapé reception hosted by Steve Rider and Henry Hope-Frost, where the prize giving ceremony of the prestigious ‘H’ trophies to the 2014 HSF Team Karting Challenge champions will also take place. In addition to staged interviews with some of the attending drivers and personalities, an auction of some very special items donated to the Foundation for this event will be carried out.
Non-racing supporters are invited to come along to watch the racing and visit Mercedes-Benz World for free! Tickets for the Champagne and Canapé Reception are available for a minimum donation of £65.00, with one hundred percent of the funds raised from the entire event going to the Henry Surtees Foundation, Brooklands Museum and the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust.
