ALL OR NOTHING AT DONINGTON PARK

20th May 2014

One of the most hotly discussed moments of BTCC 2014 so far is the sensational last lap battle between Colin Turkington and Gordon Shedden at Donington Park.

The final race of the day saw every car using the soft Dunlop tyre after two wet contests earlier in the day. Turkington took the lead early on and even at two thirds race distance looked to have the measure of all his rivals. It wasn’t to be long before his mirrors were full of Honda Civic Tourer…

Shedden found himself right in the thick of it in the opening few laps, narrowly avoiding a broad-sided Andrew Jordan at the first corner as the Pirtek Racing car slid sideways across the track. From there the #52 Tourer had it all to do, but on the soft tyre the car, in Shedden’s words, ‘really came alive’.

By lap 12 Shedden had clawed his way back up to second position, but was more than five seconds behind the eBay Motors BMW. To relive the thrilling conclusion to the race, or see it for the first time if you missed it, check out the video below courtesy of our colleagues at ITV Sport.
