After a successful pilot at the previous round the BTCC’s revolutionary road-cleaning technology and service has been unveiled at Snetterton.
Dubbed the BTCC GENIUS, the advanced road-cleaning machine and accident management service that mitigates the risk of slippage and secondary road traffic accidents to reduce injuries and save lives, will now play a key role at all BTCC events.
Demonstrated in front of the UK’s media, including ITV, on Saturday evening the BTCC GENIUS has now been used for the first time on British soil following an incident in an MSA Formula race on Sunday morning.
“This will be used for the BTCC and all of its support series’,” Alan Gow confirmed.
“There’s obviously the safety aspect, which is critical, but there’s also the level of professionalism and time taken to clear up such incidents. The BTCC GENIUS gets to work immediately and can clear slippages and residue in around a minute. It’s only right that the BTCC continues to innovate in our sport and we believe this is the future for circuits around the country.”
The system works by using patented mechanical suction technology, and unlike vacuums, can be used to clean-up combustible liquids from the road surface. Once the road is free of harmful liquids, the circuit is washed and returned to its original state.
“We were delighted with the performance of the unit at the Croft Circuit as it made the track completely clean and safe following an incident as all the liquid was removed from the Tarmac,” commented Gow following the successful pilot.
“The quick operation also meant there were no delays to the jam-packed race programme, ensuring the fans didn’t miss a single minute of the action.
“The use in the BTCC of this bespoke system is a first for British motorsport and is perfectly suited to motor racing. I’m also very proud that the BTCC is, yet again, at the forefront in providing a safer and more efficient motorsport environment."
With the BTCC providing an ideal showcase for this innovative technology, the SAFE system will soon make this unique technology and service available to local highway authorities and accident management firms who look after the UK’s extensive road network.
But for the now the BTCC GENIUS will be ensuring that the track stays safe on this sunny Sunday at Snetterton!
