In a weekend full of action and excitement at Donington Park, the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship’s youngest racer enjoyed his best ever result and finished the frenetic final encounter as the top independent driver.
Moffat secured his best ever qualifying position on Saturday with ninth for the striking new Mercedes A-Class, however race day didn’t start according to plan for the 18-year-old.
“Until that last race it was looking like a dreadful weekend to be honest,” said Aiden. “We did have our best qualifying which was good, but we went further and further back in race one on the soft tyre. In race two we ended up off the track after contact, so we could almost have packed up and gone home after that!”
Race three was undoubtedly one of the most exciting BTCC races ever witnessed, and the Laser Tools Racing car was right in the thick of the action. Starting down in 16th, the #16 driver made move after daring move to pick his was through the pack. Tussling right to the finish line and eventually crossing it on the grass side-by-side with Rob Collard attempting to take fourth place, Moffat came home the top independent driver in fifth.
He added, “To start in 16th in race three and walk away with a trophy is massive for us. We’re a family run team so it means so much to everyone – it’s good to reward all the lads at Laser Tools Racing with a trophy for all the hard work they’ve put in. Although it’s not an outright top three podium, it’s close enough. A year ago if you’d told us we’d be up here we’d probably have laughed it off, so for it now to be a reality it’s a good reward for the hard work everyone puts in. “
