Ingram wins to take unassailable points lead

5th October 2025

Tom Ingram stands triumphant in Round 29 of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch to take an unassailable points lead in the Drivers' Standings with one race of the season remaining.

A packed crowd lined the famous Grand Prix circuit as pole-sitter Dan Cammish first sped away in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus, but the Goodyear soft tyre shod runners were soon swarming in.

Team VERTU's Tom Chilton relinquished Cammish of the lead as title protagonists Tom Ingram (Team VERTU) and Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK) both made their way through the order.

Cammish fell out of contention as Chilton let Team VERTU teammate Ingram through into the lead, helping him to close in on a second BTCC title.

There was an inkling of drama, however, when Chilton's Hyundai ground to a halt during a safety car period, which had occurred following contact between Árón Taylor-Smith's Toyota (TOYOTA GAZOO Racing UK with IAA) and Charles Rainford's BMW (LKQ Euro Car Parts Racing with WSR).

Now, with the top two in the championship running one-two in the race there was the possibility of a battle Royale, but another safety car period halted proceedings when Taylor-Smith's Toyota was again involved, as he crashed out following contact with team-mate Josh Cook.

In truth, Ingram never looked phased as he pulled clear to win his seventh race of the season to move into an unassailable points lead ahead of Sutton.

The podium was completed by Team VERTU's Senna Proctor, with his battling performance having huge implications in the Manufacturers'/Constructors' and Teams' championships.

With one race remaining, Alliance Racing/Ford lead EXCELR8 Motorsport/Hyundai by a solitary point in the Manufacturers'/Constructors' and the same outfits are blanketed by just four points in the Teams' table.

There are other titles up for grabs of course, with the top three in the Independent Drivers' covered by 11 points and the battle for Jack Sears Trophy top two separated by just five points.
