NAPA Racing UK double before Doble delivers maiden win

25th May 2025

BTCC boasts eight different winners in last eight races

Rounds 7, 8 and 9 of the 2025 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship took place at Snetterton this weekend (24/25 May) as NAPA Racing UK claimed a double before Mikey Doble delivered a memorable maiden victory.

If the WSR BMW squad were in buoyant mood following a hat-trick of wins at Brands Hatch last time out, then the early running at Snetterton belonged to NAPA Racing UK.

Dan Cammish continued his impressive qualifying form on Saturday as he snatched his second pole position of the season with a stunning performance – setting the fastest ever lap around the Snetterton 300 layout.

The #27 driver duly delivered in the opening race before team-mate Dan Rowbottom took his first win of the season in the second bout, but the most popular win of the day belonged to Doble.

Not only was it a first ever BTCC win for Surrey man Doble, but it had also been 1001 days since an Independent team had taken an overall race win, and it was the first for the Power Maxed Racing squad since Jason Plato at Brands Hatch in 2019... 156 races ago.

A third of the races so far this season have been won by maiden victors, whilst the BTCC has recorded eighth different winners in the last eight races – highlighting the outstanding competitiveness in Britain’s premier motorsport series.

As the spectators made their way home it was Ash Sutton leading the Drivers’ Standings by 15 points from Tom Ingram, the latter having endured both the highs and lows of motorsport at Snetterton. As did reigning champion Jake Hill, with the BMWs struggling for pace the #1 has slipped 40 points off the championship summit.

EXCELR8 Motorsport/Hyundai and the Team VERTU outfit still hold sway in both the Manufacturers’/Constructors’ order, whilst Doble and Restart Racing lead the Independents’ tables.

It was a challenging weekend for Brands Hatch race winner Daryl DeLeon but he does top the Jack Sears Trophy.

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship returns at Thruxton in Hampshire on 7/8 June.

Cammish converts pole into victory

NAPA Racing UK's Cammish led from start to finish to win the opener at Snetterton.

The #27 Ford Focus withstood steady pressure from behind throughout as the gap fluctuated back to Ingram (Team VERTU – Hyundai) and Ash Sutton (NAPA Racing UK – Ford).

The fight for second was a fantastic game of cat and mouse between longtime title protagonists Ingram and Sutton, which eventually built towards a climax in the final two laps. Sutton's Ford Focus was up alongside the #80 Hyundai on a couple of occasions and there was minor contact as the duo expertly battled for position.

Ingram held firm as the fast-starting Sutton completed the podium positions, with the former scoring his 100th rostrum in the BTCC.

Rowbottom had to fightback after a sluggish start as the NAPA Racing UK Ford man eventually made it through to fourth, his move around the outside of Adam Morgan’s Team VERTU Hyundai on the run to Riches being a particular highlight.

Morgan was relegated down to sixth late on by the charging Restart Racing Hyundai of Daniel Lloyd, with Team VERTU's Tom Chilton and Restart Racing's Chris Smiley next in the order.

Rowbottom rallies to win race two

36-year-old Rowbottom claimed his first victory of the season – the third of his BTCC career so far – as he fended off a number of challengers in race two.

The three Goodyear hard tyre runners – Cammish (NAPA Racing UK – Ford), Ingram (Team VERTU – Hyundai) and Sutton (NAPA Racing UK – Ford) – all made good getaways, but it wasn't long before they had the soft-shod runners reeling them in.

Pole-sitter Cammish had already been relegated to third by Sutton and Ingram, and he was further shuffled down to eighth by the end of the opening lap.

Sutton let team-mate Rowbottom by, but the biggest moment took place when Ingram ran wildly wide through Riches and made contact with the barrier while trying to correct the car.

Now in the lead, Rowbottom's race was about to get even tougher as a quartet of Hyundais – Lloyd (Restart Racing), Morgan (Team VERTU), Chilton (Team VERTU) and Smiley (Restart Racing) – swarmed in.

Lloyd made his move and looked to have cemented P1 as he sliced his #123 machine by Rowbottom's Ford Focus, but the latter fought back almost immediately to retake the lead.

Morgan – with additional TOCA Turbo Boost available – then made light work of Lloyd and he set about hauling in Rowbottom's Ford ahead of him.

A two-lap showdown took place as Morgan attacked, while Rowbottom used every inch of track to defend his position, which he duly did until the chequered flag fell.

There was one final move as Chilton completed the podium to make it a double for Team VERTU – up to that point being the only squad to finish on the podium in each and every BTCC race so far this season.

Doble delight after memorable maiden victory

Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing's Doble then took a memorable maiden victory with a lights to flag triumph in the Norfolk finale

Doble – starting from pole position – never put a wheel wrong, even when he had four-time BTCC champion Sutton and multiple race winner Josh Cook closing him down.

Sutton made an outrageous start, coming from tenth on the grid through to fourth on the opening lap, with Cook's Honda now immediately ahead of him.

The Goodyear soft-shod duo of Cook and Sutton were soon into second and third respectively as the old friends swapped positions on a couple of occasions.

Sutton eventually made the move for second stick, and he attacked Doble's Vauxhall Astra in the closing laps, but the #116 ran wide at the Wilson hairpin on the penultimate lap and the fight was over.

The podium was completed by Sutton and Cook, but there was an even bigger headline behind as Team VERTU's Ingram stormed from 24th on the grid to an incredible fourth at the finish in his Hyundai i30N.

Dan Cammish, NAPA Racing UK, said: “A good start, and I got away clean. It was always important to manage that first lap, and I managed to fend them off. I had a bit of a boost deficit, so I knew they had their work cut out, but I used it when I needed to. A fairly sensible win. I think we did everything right there in terms of the on-track bit.”

Dan Rowbottom, NAPA Racing UK, said: “It was hard work and Dan (Lloyd) put up a real tough fight before Adam (Morgan) then came on strong in the final laps. The car has been fantastic all weekend. We want to win races, and my target is to challenge for the championship at the end of the day.”

Mikey Doble, Motor Parts Direct with Power Maxed Racing, said: “I’m lost for words really. It was a fantastic race, and everyone deserves it so much. It’s massive for me just to be in the championship, never mind standing here as a BTCC race winner. To bring PMR their first win since Jason Plato in 2019 too… it’s been a long road to get here.”
