Oulton Park marks the fourth event on this year's calendar, as the championship battle begins to take shape.

Rich Energy BTC Racing's Josh Cook heads to the Cheshire venue holding the top spot in the Drivers' Standings following another double victory last time out, but with nearest rival Ash Sutton yet to grace the top step of the podium this year, could the NAPA Racing UK man be one to watch this weekend..?

Third-placed Colin Turkington will also be on the attack, with the Team BMW man holding an impressive ten victories at Oulton Park over his BTCC career.

In addition to the overall battle, the Jack Sears Trophy fight is hotting up, with Autobrite Direct with JourneyHero racer Bobby Thompson holding a one-point advantage over George Gamble, whose Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport squad will be aiming for a strong weekend at its local circuit.

Notably, Ash Hand came out on top at Thruxton with a trio of JST victories in his CarStore Power Maxed Racing Astra, with the 28-year-old looking to move up the order.

The weekend's action will, as always, kick off with two free practice sessions on Saturday (11 June) which fans can follow via the BTCC's live timings and commentary available here, before qualifying at 1530, streamed live on itv.com/btcc.

Sunday's race-day coverage commences on ITV's main channel from 1210, showing races one and two live, before switching over to ITV4 from 1505 for the third BTCC race of the day.

'HOPES ARE HIGH' FOR TOYOTA GAZOO RACING AT OULTON PARK

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship is bound for Oulton Park this weekend (11/12 June) for the fourth stop on its 2022 calendar, with Toyota GAZOO Racing UK targeting a repeat of last summer’s champagne celebration in Speedworks Motorsport’s ‘backyard’.

Despite being located less than ten miles away from Speedworks’ Northwich base, the Cheshire circuit has traditionally reserved some pretty rotten luck for the two-time winners of the BTCC Independent Teams’ title – until last year, that is, when Rory Butcher put those demons to bed in fine style.

Indeed, the Scot – similarly a former BTCC Independents’ Champion – is something of a specialist around Oulton’s undulating layout, having posted the fastest lap in the final race there in 2019 and pole position in 2020.

Butcher converted that advantage into victory the next day, before fighting his way from fourth on the grid into a lead he would not subsequently surrender last August to cement a commanding maiden triumph behind the wheel of Toyota GAZOO Racing UK’s British-built Corolla GR Sport. The 35-year-old Kirkcaldy native added a further two wins to his burgeoning CV later on in the campaign, and will be chasing career victory number ten this weekend.

Stablemate Ricky Collard has also excelled at Oulton in seasons past, notably beating current McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris to the top step of the rostrum there in the BTCC-supporting MSA Formula single-seater series in 2015.

Twelve months on, the 25-year-old Surrey-born star sped to pole position, fastest lap and a brace of lights-to-flag successes at the track en route to sealing the runner-up spot in the overall standings in BRDC British F3. He went on to claim a podium double at Oulton in the British GT Championship’s fiercely-disputed GT4 category in 2018, and while hamstrung by ill fortune thus far in 2022, Collard has nonetheless shown plenty of promise and pace on his BTCC return.

Following Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session at 1530 – broadcast on itv.com/btcc – Sunday’s doorhandle-to-doorhandle action will be shown live and in high-definition on ITV’s main channel from 1210, prior to switching to ITV4 at 1505.

“Moving on from a tough weekend at Thruxton and going back to the scene of my first win with the Toyota Corolla, hopes are high,” said Butcher. “That was a very special moment last year, and it was wonderful to see how much it meant to Christian, Amy [Dick – Team Manager] and the whole crew. I’m feeling really good in the Corolla right now, so hopefully we can deliver a similar result this time around.

“Oulton Park is unquestionably one of the country’s most iconic circuits, and somewhere I’ve enjoyed racing at throughout my career – right back to my very early days in Formula Ford. I just love the place; it’s such a varied track, with constant undulations and the contrast between its fast, flowing sections and the tight, technical nature of the Island Bend hairpin and Knickerbrook Chicane.

“It’s a tremendous challenge for drivers and teams, and it’s really hard to string together a perfect lap – everything needs to be absolutely spot on. Not only that but with it being so narrow, overtaking is tricky so exploiting the hybrid system will be key, especially exiting Island Bend going up Hill Top and climbing Clay Hill after the Knickerbrook Chicane, where I expect the extra power to be particularly effective.

“With that in mind, maximising free practice will be even more important than usual, since qualifying will be crucial. We need to try to get onto the front few rows of the grid in order to give ourselves a fighting chance in the races, because if we can get the most out of Saturday, Sunday will take care of itself.”

“Oulton Park is a fantastic track, and one I always enjoy going to,” added Collard. “It’s just so old-school and I love how close the barriers are – there’s very little margin for error. It might be a cliché to say it, but there really is a bit of a mini Nürburgring Nordschleife vibe to the place.

“My dad achieved a lot of good results at Oulton in the BTCC, and I seem to go well there too so I’m looking forward to tackling it in a touring car for the first time. It’s obviously a big weekend for the team, and hopefully we will benefit from a lot of ‘home’ support. I’ll certainly be out to put on an exciting show for all of our sponsors, suppliers and guests!

“With overtaking being so tough there, qualifying will be super important and that has to be our primary focus. I’m still learning how to extract the most out of the tyres over a single lap in a front-wheel drive car, but we’re getting there. At Donington, we secured a respectable grid position and then I was third-quickest through the first sector at Brands Hatch, so we know we have the speed.

“Despite the setbacks we’ve encountered so far this season, I remain positive and my mindset doesn’t change – we’ve just got to regroup and go again. What we need is a consistent weekend without any issues. The pieces of the puzzle are all very clearly there – now it’s a question of slotting them into the right places...”

BTCC roars into Oulton Park

Touring car stars head for Cheshire

Rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship take place at Oulton Park this weekend (11/12 June) with thousands of spectators set to welcome the UK’s premier stars and cars to the picturesque Cheshire circuit.

The fourth event on the BTCC calendar has always been hugely popular among drivers and fans alike as the race for the most coveted prize in UK motorsport continues to take shape.

Josh Cook hit the top last time out as four wins from the last six races propelled him to the summit of the Drivers’ Standings. The Rich Energy BTC Racing star enjoyed a memorable May as he claimed a double triumph at Brands Hatch, before repeating the feat at Thruxton, and the Honda driver now heads to Oulton Park with a target on his back.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton may not have won a race so far this season, but a podium hat-trick at Thruxton and solid points finishes in every race have elevated the NAPA Racing UK man up to second, ahead of four-time champ and regular title rival Colin Turkington.

Team BMW’s Turkington will be greatly looking forward to the next two race weekends – at Oulton Park and Croft respectively – as the Northern Irishman has enjoyed huge success at both venues.

Tom Ingram relinquished the top spot at Thruxton – dropping to fourth in the table – after the Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 TradePriceCars.com driver endured a challenging time in Hampshire.

ROKiT MB Motorsport Jake Hill is well in contention following his own podium double, as is Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan, having won the reversed grid race at the UK’s fastest circuit.

Local Lights

Morgan’s recent triumph at Thruxton led to huge celebrations on the pit wall last month, and now his Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport squad prepares for its local race event at Oulton Park.

The Lancastrian had endured a relatively tough time at his home track until that all changed last season when the BMW 3 Series racer reached the rostrum twice, so the 33-year-old will be looking to keep his championship challenge on track next weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to my home race weekend at Oulton Park,” said Morgan. “We always have lots of local support and it’s also great to see so many of our guests and sponsors in attendance.

“It’s a fantastic circuit and we come here in confident mood after the win at Thruxton.”

Another outfit that had traditionally endured local heartache is Speedworks Motorsport-run Toyota GAZOO Racing, but again this all changed with a victory last season for the Northwich-based team.

“After enduring terrible luck at our local track year after year, to win there last season – and in such emphatic fashion, too – was one of the most memorable results in Speedworks’ history,” said Christian Dick, Team Principal, Toyota GAZOO Racing UK.

“Competing at Oulton – only a matter of miles down the road from our workshop – is always special for us. We receive a lot of support, and for Rory [Butcher] to reward everybody in the team, as well as all of our sponsors, family and friends with a first ‘home’ victory, was very emotional for all concerned.

“We know the Corolla is well-suited to the circuit too, so all told, there’s no reason at all why we shouldn’t be taking some silverware back with us to Northwich on Sunday night.”

Ticket Prices, TV Times and Support Races

With a spectacular support series line-up complementing the BTCC action in Cheshire, there will be a range of racing disciplines entertaining the crowds throughout the weekend as the F4 British Championship, Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Ginetta GT4 SuperCup Championship, MINI CHALLENGE and Ginetta GT Academy continue their 2022 campaigns.

Tickets for the fourth event on this year’s calendar are available in advance with FREE entry for children aged 13 and under, while adult weekend tickets cost £43. Further information can be found here.

This weekend also marks the second in the campaign which will be broadcast on both ITV4 – the home of Britain’s premier motorsport series – and ITV’s main channel. Tune in to ITV from 1210 on Sunday (12 June) for Rounds 10 and 11, then switch over to ITV4 from 1505 for the final BTCC race of the day, while Saturday’s (11 June) qualifying session can be viewed at itv.com/btcc from 1525.

Lloyd lands points in every race so far

Daniel Lloyd enjoyed a trio of strong top ten finishes as the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship visited Thruxton last weekend (28/29 May), continuing his run of scoring points in each of the nine races so far this season.

Having qualified 13th, the opening race in Hampshire saw the Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 TradePriceCars.com driver fight his way to eighth place, before bringing the car home ninth in the next bout.

Closely missing out on the reverse grid for race three, Lloyd concluded his weekend with another strong top ten finish as he crossed the line in seventh position, marking the third time in his BTCC career that he has scored three top ten finishes across a single race weekend.

After the visit to the UK’s fastest race circuit, the Hyundai i30N driver’s run of consecutive points scoring results now stands at 18 – the second highest tally amongst the 29 drivers on this season’s grid and he has also moved up to eighth in the championship standings.

“We’re still searching for the ultimate pace in the car,” said Lloyd. “So, in that respect it’s been another challenging weekend. However, at the same time, I’m really pleased that we have been able to recover from a tough qualifying session to score three top nine results.”

“The fact we have also moved up in the standings is a big bonus and it’s a huge positive to be scoring these kind of results at a time when we know we don’t quite have the car in the sweet spot. That leaves me confident that when things come good, it’s going to be really good, and we’ll find ourselves fighting right at the front of the pack.

“Yet again, we benefitted from some good coverage on the TV to promote my sponsors like 247 Blinds and Abracs, and I’m looking forward to doing the same at Oulton Park, which is going to be one of the busiest weekends of the season.”d for race

Motorsport Games and BTCC announce future promotional plan to upcoming official BTCC game

MIAMI, FL – JUNE 2, 2022 - Motorsport Games Inc. (NASDAQ: MSGM) (“Motorsport Games” or the “Company”), a leading racing game developer, publisher and esports ecosystem provider of official motorsport racing series throughout the world, announces today a promotional plan update, including activations, content releases and ‘first-play content’ tech demos through rFactor 2, to its planned British Touring Car Championship (“BTCC”) official game, which will release in 2024, as previously disclosed by the Company. A link to the trailer for the rFactor 2 content can be found here.

Motorsport Games and its developers are expanding and reinforcing their BTCC development efforts to optimize the user experience, offer a better value proposition to the end user and enhance product differentiation within a robust racing games marketplace. By expanding their development efforts, the Motorsport Games development team will fundamentally overhaul the platform, allowing for a cleaner codebase with more robust features. As part of these efforts, Motorsport Games will leverage the improvements it made to the rFactor 2 platform, developed in its work on KartKraft, to strengthen the BTCC offering, unifying the title with the Company’s current and future product portfolio to create the best possible user experience.

George Holmquist, Vice President, Publishing and Marketing, Motorsport Games: “We are expanding our development efforts on the BTCC release to create the best experience possible for all players, with the full support from our partners at the BTCC. Both Motorsport Games and the BTCC are committed to bringing this famous and popular motorsport series to life within the virtual world. We remain excited by this project and look forward to the many activations and content releases we have planned for the BTCC game.”

While these development efforts are ongoing, Motorsport Games and the BTCC will have multiple activations for fans to participate in. This includes on-site BTCC Fan Zone events at selected BTCC events in the second half of the 2022 season, at the Autosport International Show and future BTCC events during the 2023 season. At those races during 2022 and the majority of 2023, the BTCC Fan Zone will have between two to four racing simulators with BTCC ‘first-play content’ tech demos through rFactor 2. As the BTCC game development progresses, each activation will include the official BTCC game via demos at the tracks. Fans who participate will be able to provide real-time feedback for the new game’s development. As development approaches full release in 2024, more content is planned to become available through first playable demos.

Further, Motorsport Games plans to add additional BTCC branded content into the rFactor 2 simulation platform, which would also host regular BTCC esports events. Motorsport Games and rFactor 2 added the Infiniti Q50 and Toyota Corolla BTCC cars into the simulation for fans to drive as part of a first content rollout. Daily BTCC competitions through the rFactor 2 competition system will be open to all users, allowing for statistics-driven benefits to each driver’s rating. All content released via rFactor 2 will be utilized as a technical test bed, allowing consumers and official drivers to provide feedback for the development team and help build the best experience upon full release.

Alan Gow, CEO, BTCC: “While we understand that our fans are eager to get their hands on the BTCC game, I can assure them that the expanded development efforts that Motorsport Games is pursuing through the game’s 2024 launch will make it well worth the wait. So, we invite all of our fans to attend activations at selected BTCC events later this year to get a first look and to provide their feedback, so as to help make the new BTCC game the very best.”

Motorsport Games will announce additional information on select BTCC events featuring test versions of the game closer to each activation date. Fans are encouraged to keep up-to-date on the status of the official BTCC game through the social media channels of both Motorsport Games and the BTCC.

SUTTON SCORES PODIUM CLEAN SWEEP

Ashley Sutton continued his success in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship this past weekend (May 28/29) at Thruxton as he scored a hat-trick of podium finishes to move up to second in the standings.

The NAPA Racing UK driver showcased his capabilities, as the reigning champion scored an impressive triple podium at the UK’s fastest race circuit.

The 28-year-old arrived at the Hampshire venue with a number of changes to his Ford Focus ST which proved to be rewarding as Sutton managed to display some impressive lap times, ultimately qualifying fifth fastest.

The opening race of the day saw the three time BTCC champion produce a delightful defence as he speed his way to the final step on the podium.

Race two provided an exciting first lap for the BRDC Member as he hung on to third place, before holding off the rest of the grid for the entirety of the race to secure a second podium of the weekend.

Starting the final race in fifth virtue of the reverse grid draw, Sutton started strong by claiming two places up into third position. Despite closing the gap between himself and the two front runners, the Bishop’s Stratford-born driver crossed the line in third place to add more silverware to his collection and take a clean sweep of podiums.

Departing his promising weekend, Sutton trails series leader Josh Cook by 23 points in the BTCC Drivers’ Championship and will aim to close that gap when the series resumes at Oulton Park (11/12 June).

“Going home with three trophies isn’t a bad weekend at all,” Said Sutton. “We’ve made a real step forward with the car and to score a hat-trick of podiums is a great reward for all the hard work everyone at NAPA Racing UK and Motorbase Performance has put in.

“As soon as the car rolled out we were on it and arguably we should have been on the front row in qualifying. If I’m honest, we made a change overnight which did the opposite of what we wanted to do and that meant I was a bit of a cork in a bottle for race one.

“Once we sorted that issue the car felt really good in races two and three. I did try and have a little go at Colin (Turkington) late on in the reverse grid race but he just closed the door before I could make it stick.

“We’ve got a bit of momentum behind us now so I’m looking forward to going to Oulton Park. It’s a circuit you’ve got to really attack, which certainly suits my style, so hopefully we can get the car dialled in, hit the ground running and see what we can achieve.”

2023 BTCC calendar unveiled

Donington Park GP makes return after more than 20 years

The 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship calendar has been announced today (31 May), after series organisers TOCA confirmed its schedule earlier than ever before.

After completing just three events of the 2022 campaign so far, the UK’s premier motorsport series has already locked down its dates for next year, with a return to the Donington Park GP circuit arguably producing the most significant headline.

Next season commences on the Donington Park National circuit in late April, before the Brands Hatch Indy circuit event in May, and an earlier-than-usual slot for Snetterton.

The summer months are occupied by trips to Thruxton, Oulton Park, Croft and Knockhill, before the return to the Donington Park Grand Prix circuit – for the first time in more than 20 years – takes place in late August

As is often the case, the campaign concludes with the visit to Silverstone and the finale on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix in early October.

Alan Gow, BTCC Chief Executive, said: “I’m very pleased to be able to confirm our 2023 British Touring Car Championship calendar. We’ve never announced a following season schedule as early as May before, which provides great forward planning for our teams, partners, fans and all stakeholders.”

Cook and Morgan celebrate milestone moments

Three fantastic BTCC races wow the crowds at Thruxton

Josh Cook moved to the summit of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship Drivers’ Standings after scoring his second successive double victory, whilst Adam Morgan triumphed in the finale at Thruxton earlier today (29 May).

The results also represented significant milestones for both Cook and Morgan as the former became the most successful driver of all time at the 2.36-mile circuit with his eighth and ninth victories at the Hampshire venue, whilst the latter contested his 300th BTCC race in the second bout before his impressive race three win.

Reigning champion Ash Sutton claimed a podium hat-trick on the day as he quietly moved into second in the table, whilst there were also silverware celebrations for WSR stablemates Jake Hill and Colin Turkington.

Rich Energy BTC Racing’s Cook relinquished the lead to ROKiT MB Motorsport’s Hill in each of the first two races, but the 30-year-old quickly retook the top spot in both with a couple of eye-catching passes.

Cook’s impressive race one manoeuvre was made at the first chicane on the opening tour, but his race two blast around the outside of Hill at Club was labelled the ‘move of the season so far’ by ITV commentator and former BTCC champion Tim Harvey.

The duo remained inseparable for the remainder of both bouts, whilst NAPA Racing UK’s Sutton completed the rostrum in each.

It was all change in the finale, however, as Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport’s Morgan boosted his own title hopes with a popular win.

Jason Plato’s Rich Energy BTC Racing Honda bogged down from pole position and Morgan immediately surged past, taking Team BMW’s Turkington and Sutton’s Ford Focus with him.

Plato was back in the hunt for a podium – or even victory – by mid-distance as the leading quartet pulled away from the chasing pack. A slight scrape with Sutton going into the final chicane hampered Plato’s chances of scoring a 98th career win, and a few laps later his hopes were completely dashed when he ran off track on the exit of Church – the fastest corner in the country.

The top three ran bumper-to-bumper until the finish with Sutton even showing his nose alongside the #50 BMW of Turkington going into the final chicane, but the positions remained unchanged as Morgan sped home for the 11th victory of his BTCC career so far.

A special mention for Halfords Racing with Cataclean's Daniel Rowbottom, who finished fourth following his double top-five earlier in the day.

Cook claimed a top-five finish as he ended the day 23 points ahead of Sutton in the overall standings, with Turkington a further four points in arrears. Unsurprisingly, Cook and his Rich Energy BTC Racing squad also leads the Independents’ honours.

BMW heads the Manufacturers’/Constructors’ order, whilst Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 TradePriceCars.com held onto its slender advantage in the Teams’ table as drivers Tom Ingram and Daniel Lloyd fought hard throughout the day.

Bobby Thompson tops the Jack Sears Trophy although Ash Hand claimed honours on the day as his CarStore Power Maxed Racing team enjoyed its most competitive outing of the season so far.

Hill heads the Goodyear Wingfoot Award, which is his reward after his third successive front-row qualifying result.

Rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship take place at Oulton Park on 11/12 June.

Josh Cook said: “I’m really pleased I managed to bring it home for another double race win, mega proud of the team. We needed solid points and we’ve had a great haul this weekend and at Brands Hatch, so that’s another box ticked. But as quickly as you can be propelled to the top, it can go the other way. For us, it’s a case of making hay while the sun shines and then on the bad weekends just making sure we dig deep and score some decent points. All we can do is concentrate on the job in hand, make sure we get the car in that sweet spot, that I’m doing everything that I can do without any mistakes, extract what we can from the car and see where we end up.”

Adam Morgan said: “We really struggled yesterday, we just didn’t have the pace in the car for qualifying, but we’ve turned it around and we’re at the top spot. We really worked at it, threw something at the car today, got in the car for race one and it was like a different car altogether. It’s a mega day for everyone, this is one that I won’t forget. There’s no reason this car can’t keep up with everybody else and be at the front. I say it every year, but I’ve got a really positive feeling about this year and having George [Gamble] on board has really helped that as well. So, we’re looking forward to it, we’re looking forward to the fight.”

Ash Sutton said: “We started the day with a little bit of work to do, though the car wasn’t in a bad place. If I’m honest, a change overnight did the opposite of what we wanted to do, which is why we were a bit of a cork in a bottle for race one, so I was pleased we reverted that issue. Then in race three I just felt at one with the car, it was really good, and another podium! If we can roll over what we’ve been learning over the weekend and coming into the weekend then we’ll be going in the right direction. And I am looking forward to Oulton Park, it’s attacking, it’s my style, so hopefully we can get the car dialled in!”

Jake Hill said: “I had some great races. I played the patient game in race one and obviously managed to stay with Cook and put him under pressure but he didn’t make any mistakes. That was frustrating but, nevertheless, a great start to the day. Then in race two he played his cards right again and got it done so fair play to him. There was no contact and it was another good race between us. I’m really pleased with the points and ROKIT MB Motorsport has given me another fantastic BMW to pull this double podium off, it was brilliant.”

Colin Turkington said: “It’s been a really good day at Thruxton. Solid points and nice to get on the podium. I maybe just didn’t have the ultimate pace to win a race, but I was good enough for three top-fives and that’s what’s important at this stage of the championship. Just to keep scoring strongly. I know my day will come, when we go to Oulton, Croft, Knockhill, all good territory for the BMW 330e. But I’m happy with today. I’m always a bit anxious coming into Thruxton because it’s tough for us to get a result, but it’s been a really good day for BMW I’d say.”

MORGAN WINS THRUXTON FINALE

Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport's Adam Morgan rounded off a memorable day by claiming victory in Round 9 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton.

The BMW driver had already reached a huge milestone in the UK's premier motorsport series, having contested his 300th race in the second bout earlier in the day.

Jason Plato's Rich Energy BTC Racing Honda bogged down from pole position and Morgan immediately blasted past, taking Team BMW's Colin Turkington and NAPA Racing UK's Ash Sutton with him.

Plato was back in the hunt for a podium – or even victory – by mid-distance as the lead quartet pulled away from the chasing pack. A slight scrape with Sutton going into the final chicane hampered Plato's chances of scoring a 98th career win, and a few laps later his hopes were completely gone when he ran off-track on the exit of Church – the fastest corner in the country.

The top three remained inseparable until the finish with Sutton even showing his nose alongside the #50 BMW of Turkington going into the final chicane, but the positions remained unchanged as Morgan sped home for a hugely popular victory.

Halfords Racing with Cataclean's Dan Rowbottom was fourth, whilst Josh Cook completed one of the best days of his career so far – following his earlier double triumph – as he secured a top-five finish in the finale.

The Bristol Street Motors with EXCELR8 TradePriceCars.com duo of Tom Ingram and Dan Lloyd ended a battling afternoon in sixth and seventh respectively, whilst CarStore Power Maxed Racing also completed its most competitive day of the season as Michael Crees and Ash Hand took eighth and ninth.

Toyota GAZOO Racing UK's Rory Butcher rounded out the top ten.

Adam Morgan said: "We really struggled yesterday, we just didn’t have the pace in the car for qualifying, but we turned it around and we’re at the top spot. It’s a mega day for everyone; everyone at Car Gods, everyone at Ciceley Motorsport and Mac Tools. We’re here on the podium, we’re still ticking points off, and we’re still in the Championship hunt. What more can you ask for?

"This is one that I won’t forget, last night me, my engineers and George [Gamble] sat in the truck until 2230, we had a shocker yesterday, but we really worked at it, threw something at the car today, got in the car for race one and it was like a different car, altogether. That’s what we need, just working through it, the car is fast and we can do it. It was a bit of a carbon copy with Colin from last year, but I was not cutting the chicane this time. In fact, I was probably braking ten metres early, just to make sure I didn’t. Can I also say, Kev who’s at home not very well, he’s normally here with us every weekend, get well soon.

"We’ve come to all sorts of different tracks so far. We’ve got Thruxton which is incredibly high speed, Brands which is one of the slower tracks on the calendar and we’ve shown pace at both. There’s no reason this car can’t keep up with everybody else and be at the front. I say it every year but I’ve got a really positive feeling about this year and having George on board has really helped that as well. So we’re looking forward to it, we’re looking forward to the fight."

Colin Turkington said: "It’s been a really good day at Thruxton. Solid points and nice to get on the podium. I maybe just didn’t have the ultimate pace to win a race, but I had good enough for three top-fives and that’s what’s important at this stage of the championship. Just to keep scoring strongly.

"I know my day will come, when we go to Oulton, Croft, Knockhill, all good territory for the BMW 330e. But I’m happy with today. I’m always a bit anxious coming into Thruxton because it’s tough for us to get a result, but it’s been a really good day for BMW I’d say."

Ash Sutton said: "I enjoyed that one, I felt at one with the car. The car was really good, so yeah another podium! I didn’t know what to expect, we made a couple of changes and it was the right way for sure.

"I thought about trying the move [on Colin] a bit earlier, but I thought I’d save it to the last lap. I was three-quarters of the way out the door and I knew he was turning in so I had to bail out, you can see a little witness mark on the front bumper and I just thought of points then.

"If we can roll over what we’ve been learning this weekend, and coming into this weekend, and maybe do a bit more of that then we are going in the right direction. So, I’m looking forward to Oulton Park, it’s attacking, it’s my style so hopefully we can get the car dialled in."

300 NOT OUT: MORGAN'S THRUXTON MILESTONE

With Round 8 of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship marking Car Gods with Ciceley Motorsport driver Adam Morgan's 300th BTCC race start, we caught up with the 33-year-old on qualifying day at Thruxton to discuss his latest accolade.

"I've loved every minute of it," said Morgan. "There's been ups and downs along the way, but to get 300 is a milestone."

Reminiscing on his series debut, at Brands Hatch back in 2012, the Lancastrian admitted: "My first race was a disaster, I made it from my grid position to turn one and ended up in a tyre wall. I didn't make it for race two and in race three somebody dropped a load of oil up at Druids and 12 cars went off including mine... I think the safety car did more laps than I did!"
