BTCC on TV: Brands Hatch

This weekend (7/8 October), the 2023 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship will culminate on the Brands Hatch GP circuit; with reigning champion Tom Ingram hunting down a 45-point gap to standings’ leader, Ash Sutton, for the most coveted motorsport prize in the country.

With the the respective Champions set to be crowned, we’ve collated all the key times you need to catch the action from Rounds 28, 29 and 30, as well as ITV1 and ITV4’s highlights shows.

Almost two weeks ago (23/24 September), the BTCC headed to one of the most famous racing circuits in the world, Silverstone, for a trio of action-packed races, influenced by a mixed bag of weather conditions.

NAPA Racing UK’s Ash Sutton was one of those who lost out on tyre strategy during changeable conditions in race one. However, the second contest became one of his finest performances in his BTCC career so far, as the Ford Focus driver fought from 23rd on the grid to score an extraordinary first place. Sutton then followed this with third in race three, extending his advantage at the top by three points.

He will enter Brands hatch with a 45-point lead, and an eye on the 67 points left up for grabs, in his bid to become a record-equalling four-time BTCC champion.

The 29-year-old, alongside team-mates Dan Cammish, Dan Rowbottom and Sam Osborne, will also be aiming to celebrate NAPA Racing UK’s place at the top of the Teams’ Standings – which they currently lead by 119 points.

Reigning champion Ingram (BRISTOL STREET MOTORS with EXCELR8) is also still in the championship fight; the Hyundai racer refused to let Sutton out of his sights during the latest contests at Silverstone, also battling through the pack to reach the rostrum in the second bout, as well as finishing second in race three.

Ingram will be looking to hit the ground running at the weekend from Qualifying, ahead of the three title-deciding contests scheduled on Sunday.

While both Jake Hill (Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport) and Colin Turkington (Team BMW) slipped out of championship contention at Silverstone, they still have a key role to play when it comes to the Manufacturers’/Constructors’ trophy, with BMW looking to secure a record-breaking eighth title in succession. The currently lead the fight by 19 points.

Josh Cook created an unassailable lead in the Independent Drivers’ standings at Silverstone, after chalking up his 13th Independents’ Trophy win of 2023 during the opening race. His team, One Motorsport with Starline Racing, will also be looking to celebrate Independents’ honours at the weekend, which they will enter with a 27-point gap to nearest rival CarStore Power Maxed Racing.

Andrew Watson and Mikey Doble (CarStore Power Maxed Racing) still hold the top two spots in the Jack Sears Trophy. Although, only 33 points separate the top three, so NAPA Racing UK’s Sam Osborne will be looking to earn to fight his way back through to the top.
